I’ve been a fan for about a year now and I’ve seen people ask for disclaimers before you play a 911 call and I’ve never felt it as hard as I do now. Please put a disclaimer before you add a 911 call.

This case is similar to the Yogurts shop murders, could it be related?

Could we please get an encore run of the Feelin’ Fahmy merch? It’s what the world needs now. Captain is spot on - these 2 had to have some knowledge of the business.

Thanks for covering. I grew up in LC. Being that close to the border, the area is considered a “high trafficking” area for drugs coming from Mexico. I have traveled many times over the border entry in El Paso. In the 90s, you could travel over to Mexico and back to the US easily. I never had to provide any identification coming back from Mexico until after 9/11. All you had to do at the time is say “US citizen.” Many citizens of Mexico at the time, traveled to the US for work during the day and travel back to Mexico in the evening. The suspects could be native to Mexico or they could be US citizens that easily slipped over the border after the case cooled down. I was a child when this happened, but I remember adults talking about mob/cartel possibly being involved. There was definitely people that said there was drug involvement.

Such a weird one. Seems such a "professional" job but for such a small amount of money?

Hi Letto - if you're listening on the TCG site they are both there - double check/ refresh should come up. Or click on the listen page. If you're listening on a platform somewhere please let us know which one so we can request an update. For Podbean listeners some have been experiencing an issue with the new episodes going to the bottom of their queue. I hope this helps - Nic

Thanks, that did the trick today. I thought O had tried that yesterday as well. But I'm using Google Chrome on Android (s10) listening on the web page player. Take care.

I wonder if maybe one of the men was dating or seeing someone who worked at the bank or the alley. They had to know the money wasn't deposited that night. It would be interesting to know if someone at the bank at some point right before or after the murders someone stopped coming to work there?

There are similarities between this crime and the ICBY murders in Austin, soft targets, everybody executed with shots to back of the heads, fire to destroy evidence... I would also not be surprised if both set of monsters were under the influence of crack or seeking money for crack. To me, that is the only thing that could explain such horrific acts. However, I think the Las Cruces murders were financially motivated (and possibly connected to the gas station crime as well). As for ICBY, I believe the primary motive was sexual violence (primarily against the older Harbison girl). I don't believe the crimes were connected. Nic, a good topic for your Off The Record Show would be the Y-STR hit Central Florida University got in a survey that matched with one of the DNA hits from the ICBY rapes and murders. APD asked for the name of the donor, but the FBI has outright refused to give it. They are currently in a yelling match.

P.S. the artist renderings of those assailants do not look Mexican at all, they look Afro-Cuban.

@mG that is a good topic. I spoke to Bill from Who Killed on his show about Yogurt shop and the Y-STR hit. Might be time to revisit that. The "Mexican" description by the eyewitness might be an issue. Perhaps its a bad description and that is why we don't have arrests in this case. I tend to think both of the assailants are already dead. This for a couple of reasons - 1) the older of the two would be quite old by now if the description is accurate - 2) I think drugs played some kind of role in this. So given the habits and high-risk lifestyle of the offenders - I think we are talking about two dead guys. Regardless I still want the answers of who and why. Cheers Nic

I don’t know if there’s enough info for a whole show but check out Beverly Hope Melton from chesterfield, SC. She was followed from a convenience store, run off the road, abducted, raped, and murdered. They have surveillance footage that was used to find the guy. There’s some evidence that the former sheriff coerced a confession from the guy. Super sad story.

Hey Elmo - the Las Cruces Bowl is closed. It was sold in a court-ordered auction - I believe 18 months after the shootings. It then became the Sun bowl and operated for several years. The building currently sits empty. Thanks for posting! Cheers Nic

I was reminded of it when listening to I think Melanie Goodwin. The former sheriff was a super shady dude. He was eventually arrested on unrelated charges and sent to prison for like a year. Anyway, I love the show guys!

As adults voluntarily listening to True Crime Podcasts, we need to realize that in every episode there is the possibility that we will hear a 911 call, evidence that is disturbing and first hand accounts from victims that could be traumatizing. We do not need a disclaimer before every episode./911 call. Thanks Nic and Captain for your great work!

Here’s a thought.. it’s such little money, maybe there was a target.. and the robbery was just a cover. Love your show..

I do think there is a drug angle. Most people think 5 grad is not a lot of money, but if your goal was to be a mid size drug dealer 5 grad in the 90's would be a great start.
