Nick and Captain, big thanks for so many hours of thrilling cautionary tales with a dash of humor. I just listened to this. Sad and puzzling. Isn’t about his age where psychotic episodes start occurring? It seems some sort of schizophrenia, voices telling him to do something. If it hadn’t happened before, or only mildly, maybe his mother didn’t know about it. Also, there are all sorts of weird viral challenges that kids take part of and some of them could be lethal. In that case, though, I would expect him to be documenting with pictures or video what he was doing and maybe post it somewhere or at least someone in his circle of acquaintances to know more. So, I’m leaning more towards the former.

I’ve never been so creeped out by an episode before. There’s something so mysterious and odd about Noahs disappearance and death, that the explanation seems to be out of this world.

So, I wonder if this "adventure" thing he was supposed to participate in has anything to do with his disappearance. Because it sure looks like he was on his own adventure, which might have been more interesting to him than the one he needed to complete for school. What if he was on a dare or whatever where he needed to go to the storm drain on his own and make his way through it, in which case it would make sense for him to be naked. It still is bizarre to undress on route, unless he had a strict deadline as well (maybe until the tide made it impossible to get to the other side). Who knows? My first reaction was "drugs!" but that can be a lazy go to and there doesn't seem to be any evidence of that. Great job covering this one. These cases where somebody starts the day normally, goes somewhere where they don't appear to have any reason to go, then ends up dead or missing are the most interesting by far.

Thank you so much for being light to Noah's case. This is my town, this is my area and this very well could have been my child. This should worry every single parent on this planet the lengths that the police went to to cover this up is disgusting. Please join #NoahsArmy #JusticeForNoah #NoahWillChangeTheWorld.

There was a video circulating with your woman crook out he back garden shouting at people searching for Noah telling people to go away she is fed up with people searching her property. Now bare in mind that the storm drain was directly outside her property and Noah was inside.

He was supposed to be going on some "adventure" with his friends that day. What if they changed plans and decided to make it some sort of odd game or a prank-gone-wrong?

Noah was at about the age schizophrenia starts to manifest itself ( early teens ). Maybe he thought voices were telling him to do odd behaviors. We’re the storm sewers ever used by kids to hang out in, do drugs, etc.? I hate to even mention drugs as I’m probably assuming he’s like a lot of American kids. Kind of want to believe the U.K. hasn’t all the societal messes we have. Doc John

Just listened to your stream on Noah. This is case is just horrendous. So glad you have covered it, there are many odd things about it, there has until recently been a total media black out on it. Also recently just this week they are now investigating as a witness came forward regarding an assault on Noah. There has been huge support to Noahs mum , from car convoys, twitter storms to show that the lies that were fed initially will no be accepted .

I was awake for hours thinking about Noah last night and I've convinced myself that this was a suicide. From the CCTV and the eyewitness reports his journey to the storm drain seemed purposeful and not the meandering confused trail that you'd expect if he was disorientated, lost or trying to run away from someone. It also seems like he knew the storm drain entrance was there, or it would have to be a terrible coincidence for him just to stumble across something so weird as that either as a place to hide or to fall in by accident. The discarding of his possessions may have been so he wouldn't have identifying items on his body and he might also have thought he'd never be found in the storm drain system. I'd be interested to know more about his family situation ( his father didn't seem to be in his life) and if there was any bullying at school, online, or in his community. It must be very hard growing up mixed race in NI and the society there is still very divided and sectarian. Mental health has also taken a battering for most people but especially for teens from the Covid lockdowns last year. I think there was a self help book found amongst his belongings which may indicate he had been seeking some kind of help for low mood. I wonder how much police have been able to find in his internet search history, social media or talking to his friends. This case makes me so sad. It must have been a frightening and lonely way to die whether it really was his choice or if someone else was involved. RIP Noah.

I’m guessing they’ve considered a seizure? Not all seizures are grand mal seizures. Juvenile myoclonic epilepsy starts in the teen years. It could’ve even been his first. Just a thought.

Great show as always. From the onset of the episode, I am in line with the Captain's thoughts regarding some kind of undiagnosed or unforeseeable medical condition. It seems to me, that Noah was altered in some capacity and it only got worse as his bike ride continued. My first thought was to low blood sugar or undiagnosed diabetes. If you've ever experienced low blood sugar (blood glucose levels less than 50) we're talking confusion, sweatiness, and lack of fine motor skills. Your brain needs glucose and this could be an explanation to Noah falling off his bike. I would like to know Noah's eating habits the night before and the morning before he left his house. Although, there are many medical explanations to altered mental status. Removing his clothes reminded me of many people who become lost in the snow and begin taking their clothes off in freezing weather. Some kind of sudden delirium could also explain his confusing actions. As was mentioned in the show, previous medical evaluations and more details from the autopsy would be helpful.

Do you guys know if he was heading in the right direction before he fell and possibly hit his head? Or was he already heading in a place that makes no sense for where he was intending to go?

Just to state everyone is entitled to their opinion, but if like me you have been part of #NoahsArmy and follow his Mummy's journey since his disappearance and death you will understand that Noah💙 was a loving confident young man with his whole life ahead of him, also he had a special bond with his mum, so therefore I believe that what happened him was NOT self inflicted and that there has been a wall of silence around his story from day 1, until this week when it emerged a witness came forward to state that Noah 💙 had been assaulted, so therefore I totally understand why his mum Fiona wants answers and we all know that a parents instinct is always right, so hopefully Fiona will get the answers she needs.

Curious to find out if those locked ones were checked for fingerprints to see if he tried getting in or just knew the one was already unlocked.

I don’t know if it is relevant to this case but it sounds to me like he could have been on this “adventure” and perhaps just been worn out and experiencing some physical distress due his activities and I can see a number of reasons why he might’ve removed his clothes, number one just to make it easier to swim but also I have read that when someone becomes hypothermic from the cold their body can feel like it is overheating. I only bring this up because there was a case of a woman who was found nude and deceased on a biking trail near Ashland, OR around 2009. I don’t remember all of the details but I recall that initially people thought she had been assaulted but later it was determined she had some mental break and went out in the cold at night and as she died from exposure she removed her own clothes as when one experiences the extremes of hypothermia it will feel as if the body is on fire. I am no MD so this is just speculation but I don’t think anyone has mentioned anything like that yet. I hesitate to even bring it up because if there is some kind of cover-up this seems like it would be a handy excuse for the cover-uppers... I am so sorry and I hope the truth comes out about Noah’s ordeal, what a terrifying and terrible thing for him and his family and thank you for bringing more awareness to this case

Noah was of the age when schizophrenia usually starts. He might’ve had voices tell him to shed his clothes, etc. Where’s his toxicology report ? The sewer had just been inspected and someone forgot to replace the lock. The drain system might be where kids might hang out, smoke, drink, etc. Any Goths in Belfast?

@ J - I couldn't help but to think the same thing. What I kept going back to though is a dare or hazing almost always requires an audience, often the ones who put you up to the task in the first place. We don't have anyone who saw other boys with him or near him. Also the leaving of something expensive like the laptop is very troublesome. I don't see a 14 year old discarding that so randomly. Its a very strange and bizarre story and it leaves me thinking someone has done something wrong. Best Nic

Who suggested this adventure challenge? We’re they investigated? Maybe the Backpack was to heavy and fire ants or bugs termites bees could have fell into a mound of them and shed his clothes to rid them from his person , Ran to a storm drain to wash them off then got caught and drowned. Maybe the adventure was a scavenger hunt. And the computer was left at a location for the next clue.. Did the kids his friends show up at the prearranged destination? This case is very disturbing but they seem to be missing 8 minutes . Someone knows

This case reminds me of the Elisa Lam case here in Los Angeles. She was a diagnosed bipolar. She had very similar strange behavior and ended up naked in a water tank on the roof of her hotel. A lot of parallels to this case and I agree with John - he may have had a psychotic break. Just because he hadn’t had one already doesn’t mean his first led to this tragedy.

I think based on the few facts that we have, the medical issue would be the first to investigate and or rule out. I assume they did a toxicology? Ruling out drugs or poison of any kind? Hypothermia makes people take off all their clothes. Another thought is from a House episode where a man had som type af adrenal problem and was in a wheelchair and unable to talk. He drove his wheel chair into a pool. His body was so hot because it could not control its own temperature. I know it’s a fictional show but based on real illnesses. I think it’s a good place to start if the boy knew there would be water in the sewer to cool him.

He clearly wasn't in his right mind. Could a friend have given him something, street drug, prescription, to try out? Even the smartest teens have been known to make mistakes, and we've all, if we're honest, been there when a pal shows off what he's discovered. You say no, you say yes, and 99%of the time, no lasting harm done. In his innocence, he could have taken something with no idea what it was. Poor guy, I hope they get to the bottom of it.

#1. Stated at the beginning that he was supposed to go on an "adventure". Sounds like an initiation gone bad. To a secret "whatever you want to call it". The things he was doing he was obviously told to do. #2. There are no coincidences, there are few here.

I had not heard it mentioned, do we know if there was a Covid test done on him? As many people don’t show all signs he may have been positive. More and more crazy symptoms have been reported like the burning skin feeling, dementia, hallucinations and confusion. And as a teenager and wanting to participate in the outing with his friends he may have been hiding feeling sick. Just a thought...

@ all - Remember the adventure was a teacher approved day out with the school mates. Boys his age. My guess would be that was heavily looked at when he was first missing. There could be something there but I think it seems on the up and up. The COVID theory is very interesting and certainly something to consider. Hopefully these inquest will provide better answers because so far - they have not done a very good job on this one. Cheers Nic

Hos behaviour sounds like he could have ingested Datura? I see it grows in Nth Ireland. We had a spate of cases here in the late 90's and one sympton is the victim feels they're overheating and will walk into the sea to cool down, drowning as they go. It was a "cool thing" here for a brief period and involved young men daring each other to take the stuff. He may have taken it accidently?

If drugs or a medical condition are ruled out, and it sounds like they are based on no mention of drugs from the autopsy or past medical history and no recent changes in behavior, than the only logical explanation on my mind is that he was being pursued by someone. Perhaps it started with someone trying to steal his backpack, or perhaps he simply shed the backpack in order to be able to ride faster without the weight (there were books and a laptop inside). Then it's possible he shed the coat because he was getting hot. Did the individual catch up with him and assault him, making him remove his clothes? Did he manage to escape and get back on the bike? Could be have ditched the bicycle because it's probably uncomfortable to ride a bike nude especially as a male, or perhaps he saw this drain system and thought it would be a good place to hide. Then perhaps he did drown accidentally while hiding in the drain when the tide returned, or did his pursuer follow him in there? If that were the case i would expect there to be defensive wounds however. Very sad and perplexing and I sure hope the family gets justice.

I believe I´ve read some piece of fiction where the protagonist throws away his clothes, one at a time, to delay some chasing predator, and reaches safety in his cabin mostly naked... I don't think it would work very well in practice, but maybe Noah, in some kind of delusional state, was thinking and acting along this line? I still wonder, though, if he knew about the unlocked drain beforehand? It seems pretty much as he was heading straight for it! Great pod, Nic & Captain! I enjoy every episode!

I believe I´ve read some piece of fiction where the protagonist throws away his clothes, one at a time, to delay some chasing predator, and reaches safety in his cabin mostly naked...

This horrific incident has early onset schizophrenia written all over it. Paranoia, and thinking someone is following you or out to get you is common. Perhaps he had an episode and thought someone was tracking him. First he ditched his backpack because they must be tracking him through his laptop. But that wasn’t enough. On and on and he finally hid. How he’d know exactly where that tunnel was idk, but I wonder if the family has a history of this mental illness. (Think: Fight Club. - extreme imagination apart from reality.)

This case also made me think of Elisa Lam. I saw an article about a missing man in WA state who was thought to be suffering from COVID-19 psychosis. I tried to find an update before this post, but with so many COVID articles it's going to be a search. He showed signs of strange behavior before he disappeared, though. I was able to find cases of young teens suffering from COVID psychosis. I can't imagine that COVID testing has become apart of autopsies, but it would be interesting to know if this was even a possibility.

So mysterious, a few people on here saying racially motivated but it sounds more likely to be a suicide. Hope his family get the answers they need. Side note, I'm sure I heard Edinburgh mentioned. For us it's more like Edinborough pronounced Edinbruh rather than Edinburg/Edinberg.

This case reminds me of Elisa Lam, odd behavior followed by a drowning. In both situations Lisa and Noah seemed to be drawn to water or maybe this was just a coincidence. I just wonder if this is due to a psychological breakdown or chemical reaction to ingesting something.

I’m late listening to the episode...did they rule out CTE from rugby? The episode said no head injury but did they do a full look into repetitive, possibly subtle brain injuries?

Wgat about the friends that was supposed to help him so the group activity, did anyone question them to see what is was about. Maybe it was supposed to be something like a “rescue mission” that went horribly wrong. Or what if one of his friends were jealous of him and purposely let it go wrong. Like I feel like he have to have help placing his clothing around and the fact that he’s seen when needed to be and not seen well you know..... just a theory

Background- Police Detective and Officer Patrol Officer for 15yrs. I unfortunately guessed what was going to happen as this story played out... well besides the sewage tunnel part. I work in Northern Indiana right on Lake Michigan bordering the Indiana Dunes National Park and along 2 major Interstates, 30 miles from Chicago. So all of that being said a very busy and heavy tourist area especially in the summer. I have observed this behavior probably about a dozen times over the past 5 years. It all had to do with newer synthetic street drugs. A majority of those cases were people under the age of 18 and identical behavior, the become delusional and paranoid, start to strip their clothes and look for somewhere to cool down... we have had people go into walk-in coolers at gas stations lie down and try to hide them selves with pallets of drinks, climb into the big Ice Chest out side of gas stations, dive into drainage ponds in 40degree weather . These were all tourist who for whatever reason were camping at the National Park and took drugs and ended up at our major business district. In the most extrem case we had a 16yo in near freezing weather run through a sliding glass window of a radom house 2 miles from his in the middle of the night causing injuries the nearly killed him. Most of them have no idea what they did after they “come down” or the next day. Not saying this is the case here but it is striking similar. I would really like to see the toxicology report and wonder if there were detailed interviews done with his friends he was going to meet that day. Maybe by the slight chance they were going to experiment with something during their “adventure”. Keep up the great work guys!
