The plural of incident is incidents, not incidences. Love the show.

Really? Cheep gas? "Only cost me $3.00 to fill my tank!" " I think I'll go kill someone!" LOL!!! come on. I am only mad because when you said "Cheep gas" was a factor in serial killings, beer came out of my nose!

I came here to say the same thing Val of Indiana said. I think you are conflating two different words: “incident” and “instance.” Singular: incident Plural: incidents Singular: instance Plural: instances For more info: https://grammarist.com/spelling/incidence-incidents/

These sexual predators need to go into a database as early as possible. When you follow the histories of these guys, you see the same actions repeated over and over. Indecent exposure, molestation, etc.. And no amount of therapy is going to change their pathologies, they are broken machines. And in this case you have juvenile records expunged. Wow, who came up with that great idea? Let's make the police start blind when the predator reaches adulthood. I realize that these crimes took place in another era, but with the technology and communications we have today, there is no reason that when a sexual crime is committed today, officials can't consult a detailed database instantly and know the MO and background of every likely suspect within a 100 miles. As for the tape on the nose, I remember a movie called "Bottle Rocket" a few years back, where guys robbing a book store had tape over their nose. The employee asked them why they had tape on their nose and the robber said "exactly." I think the point was to make the focus on the tape, so other observations are misdirected. As usual, Nic, you are the best at breaking it down.

Cheap gas was from Jon Wertheim's article. I don't necessarily agree with the statement I took from his article. However that statement - cheap gas is not an inspiration to kill. Cheap gas is one of many factors that allowed these types to roam freely without detection. And thank you for the word clarification. Sorry about that - inspiring unwanted headaches! Cheers Nic

Loved the shout out to Ann Rule! Outside of True Detective magazines, she was my first venue into true crime reading. I have read TONS of true crime and I don't think I have read a better author in the genre. She really knew her stuff!

I may be missing something along timelines but overall this sounds a lot like a case of the Ted Bundy’s 🤔🧐

Bet that is interesting that you say that... Bundy was active a little earlier that the I-5 but it has similarities not only in geography but both exhibited sexual predator type traits at an early age - peeping tom vs. flasher/exposer also its believed that with both of these monsters we do not know the total number of victims. cheers Nic

Finally got around to listening (had a rough week last week, so crime wasn't a topic of priority, lol). As some have said, I think the tape on the nose was a distraction. You'll definitely remember that, but might have forgotten to take note of his more permanent features. It's actually a pretty smart move. I'd like to know if any professionals in the medical or psychology fields have done an analysis on him. Something is clearly not right with him. To go from exposing yourself as a young teen, to physical assault, to shooting people in the head... hell of an escalation there! I can't imagine that poor woman who had to lie there with two shots to her head, knowing her friend was probably dead beside her. Captain, I love your irreverent terminology. But... "purple-headed yogurt-slinger?" *Gag* lol

Cap - what does being raised Catholic have to do with becoming a serial killer?!

Love your show! I have listened for about over two years and I am a big fan! I leave 5 star reviews and talk up your show to all who will listen. But when the Captain asked if there was anything in his young life that made him a sexual deviant, he asked, "was he raised Catholic?" Really? It is much more probable that Randy was sexually abused by a family member as a child than that any religious belief made him like that. Maybe there was a follow up comment that would have justified this comment, but I didn't hear it. This comment will NOT stop me from listening to your very researched, highly entertaining show, but I had to speak up and ask that even if it is not your particular belief, please don't bash mine. Thank you.

Hello Beth - I think there was more to follow that question but I interrupted with some thoughts of my own. I think it only comes off as a weird comment because I interrupted. I'm guessing but I think there would have been more of was there sexual abuse or anything weird with the family? Something like that. I can't speak to the Captain's current beliefs or practices but I can say we were both raised Catholic in fact we played on the same football team at our church which was a school as well. We didn't attend school there but participated in a lot of the additional programs offered by that church. CCD was mandatory for me but I more enjoyed the summer camps - those were awesome and I have several funny memories of playing on the church's football team. We weren't very good but had fun! Cheers Nic

I think the Cap was referring to the high instances of child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. I don't think it had any correlation to actual Catholic beliefs.

I know it's been said by other commenters but, omg stop saying "incidences"! It's incidents! I tried a few episodes of this show and the repeated butchering of that word was the last straw. The hosts have really poor chemistry and their story delivery is often dull, disjointed, and hard to follow. Overall I'm just unimpressed.
