It's likely her disability checks ranged from 600 to 1000 dollars per month. Her check was most like directly deposited into her bank account as this is how most checks go out. However it is possible that she was getting a paper check but this is rare now a days

I love that you two are advocating for this case. It is terrible that she was murdered and a slap in the face that these psychopaths made tshirts. I am looking forward to hearing when they go to prison!!!

Wow. What a disgusting case and aftermath. This t-shirt family needs to be studied. Ugly, ugly people. Truly. Thank you for telling Trish's story. My heart goes out to her family. I'm so sorry for your loss!!! And if this case is not moving forward due to her being "less important" in some people's eyes then those people need to do some serious growing before they are fit for their positions of power. Btw, monkeyboys, 'defund the police' does not mean 'no police at all', so I didn't understand what your point was there?

This is horrifying. The NH AG needs to get off his ass and do his job. And am I the only one who gets the irony of Ashley being out on bail for, among other things, jumping bail?

I work with people who get Social Security Disability and they stopped sending paper checks several years ago. They give out debit cards and deposit the checks into that. Trish might have had one of these cards and while I know the police stopped the checks, they didn't right away. It makes me wonder if they tracked the card's activity.

What bout follow the money. I know it may not be a check but was the money still being spent after she went missing. I know it was probably loaded on a card but still. Or look to see how ashley and doug acted after the money was cut off.

As others have mentioned, the disability checks would probably be deposited into a bank account. Typically, the account is a savings account that may have an ATM card but not necessarily a debit card. I've been in banking for nearly a decade and that's been my observations. If these douche canoes were exploiting her for her disability checks, they would more than likely have had the card and PIN in their possession. Since they were obviously still siphoning off her money after they murdered her, they'd probably have photos of these jack nuggets at the ATMs.

This case is puzzling. It appears there was no welfare check at least called in for police or social services to check on her prior to her death and that is too bad. There must be a lot more evidence the police have as seems there is so much to work with. Timelines, forensics, cell records, tracing of her benefits and whereabouts. The suspects seem like such inept criminals and idiots I cannot believe they could cover their tracks very well. Now re defunding the police I am not sure the point was made there sorry Nic I usually agree with you. Here there was no "defunding" and look where we are, no arrests for what appears to be a pretty clear cut case. "Defunding" also does not actually mean get rid of the police or prevent them from doing their jobs. It does mean (at least to me who is not pretending to be an expert) that funds are diverted to other avenues like social services which frankly probably would have helped here and possibly they could have stepped in to help her prior to her death. I mean if you are going to bring it up maybe discuss the whole issue. I like you Nic that point just seemed off base to me in this case.

Just a note: the job of police officer has become a catchall for all manner of tasks that are really not within the parameters of law enforcement. The phrase "defund the police" is rather a misnomer of a term as it infers a scaling back of actual law enforcement. The idea, actually, is to pare down the duties of police officers to actual law enforcement, while creating other entities to be tasked with calls such as mental health crisis or 'what's this weird thing in my basement' or whatever. The goal is not to lessen law enforcement but rather to streamline it. The 'defund the police' movement is pro law enforcement. It's just an unfortunate and misleading choice of phrase.

Thank you for covering this case. I’ve been listening for years, and haven’t missed an episode. I had no idea about this case, but I am looking for content to share on my social media since I live in NH, and will be attending the rally. I am also contacting the AG personally; Their secretive manner of handling the case makes me sick to think that they could eventually do this again with another local murder. I am appalled that it’s been handled so terribly when the evidence seems to be so clearly pointing at the Smiths.

I live in the next town to where she was killed & have to admit that I knew very little about this case. It makes me sick that people like the Smiths are still not being prosecuted for her murder. I will be going to the rally in Concord to try & light a fire under the AG's ass! Thank you for covering the case.

I am a true crime podcast listener from Australia & I’ve listened to many stories but after listening to this story about Trish I’m sitting here with tears in my eyes! I’m not sure why this story has affected me so deeply but I can’t help but feel for a young vulnerable woman who was so horrendously treated! Her last moments must have been true terror & her abusers must be held accountable. It’s hard to believe such evil people exist, that they can treat someone so cruelly & just carry on with their day AND they have children, god help those kids!! Thank you for shining the light brightly on this case ❤️

@Salla @SuziBeth @Ryan - like SuziBeth said, very unfortunate wording. From Wikipedia: ""Defund the police" is a slogan that supports divesting funds from police departments and reallocating them to non-policing forms of public safety and community support, such as social services, youth services, housing, education, healthcare and other community resources." In Oregon there is a program called CAHOOTS that is gaining national attention, and it 's a "community-based public safety system to provide mental health first response for crises involving mental illness, homelessness, and addiction. The program mobilizes two-person teams consisting of a medic (a nurse, paramedic, or EMT) and a crisis worker who has substantial training and experience in the mental health field. The CAHOOTS teams deal with a wide range of mental health-related crises, including conflict resolution, welfare checks, substance abuse, suicide threats, and more, relying on trauma-informed de-escalation and harm reduction techniques. CAHOOTS staff are not law enforcement officers and do not carry weapons; their training and experience are the tools they use to ensure a non-violent resolution of crisis situations. They also handle non-emergent medical issues, avoiding costly ambulance transport and emergency room treatment." per the White Bird Clinic website, where it started. "Defund" doesn't mean abolish, it mean "let cops catch the bad guys, and let the mental health workers help the others", IMHO.

@ Cathy - I agree with your info and definition but we should be able to agree that defunding the police likely means less man hours, less officers and less resources for police. I was attempting to point out something very specific and amazingly not as obvious as it should be. When violent criminals are threatening eyewitnesses of an abduction, murder and so on with arson, violence and murder - this is the AG's opportunity to make a hard push FOR keeping those man hours, officers and resources. So yes let the cops catch the bad guys and let the mental health workers help others and don't let thugs and murders bully good citizens that are trying to do the right thing and get violent offenders and murders out of our communities. CAHOOTS sounds like a great program but it does not pertain nor solve the issue in which I chose the very appropriate wording to wake this damn AG up and tell him to do his job. It's not that difficult of a show or statement to follow. However people hear a word or phrase that they like or dislike and jump into unnecessary action without actually listening to anyone. Cheers Nic

Wonder why no one has been charged yet for her murder, and I wonder why the family doesn’t file a wrongful death lawsuit against SB1 and SB2. The Captain is absolutely correct when he says if you see something (abuse) you need to say something. It’s nice that the one couple went to police after Trish went missing, but speaking up sooner might have saved her life. I can’t even imagine living with all those people and none of them related.
