Hey Fellas- thank you for reporting on Brandon. Its still a hot topic in the area. I know the story is done but just some followups-- This area is rural with Grayson County and Carroll County next to each other, with Galax (pronounced Gay lax) sitting right in between the counties. This is referred to as the Twin County area. From a local-- there was much speculation that law enforcement was involved with a cover up on this case. Not everyone is convinced that the man who is currently in jail is the guilty party.

If you are trying to get the big guy’s wallet and he is right handed the wallet might be in the back right pocket. To get, it I would cut the seatbelt and move the body to get to it.

Maybe i missed this in the podcasts, but is there any speculation as to why Brandon went to this secluded location alone? Was he brought or chased there? Or did he go there and then happened upon his killer(s)? I know the spot was supposedly a lovers-lane of sorts . . . Something about this aspect of the case is really bothering me.

If you’re stopped in a makeout spot with your girl, why would your seatbelt still be on? Even if they were parked and ambushed, it’s seems unlikely that someone would take the time to buckle their seatbelt if they were trying to make a quick getaway. But how likely is an ambush with only a seven minute window? An ambush where the only sounds heard were gunshots. No crying or shouting reported. It seems like the campers would have been able to hear that. However, if the dealers killed the wrong guy, why was Brandon out there in the first place? Unless (the most simple explanation) he was out there to buy drugs. It was his 18th birthday maybe he wanted a little weed. Does he use the pay phone at the gas station? Perhaps his pants were undone because he’s a big guy and the waist of his pants were digging into his skin.

Hello from Greece!! In my opinion,Brandon was in his car, probably with a girl(not his girl),after a secret rendezvous and caught in the act(unzipped trousers) from a jealous boyfriend. Then staged the scene to look like a robbery, after the first panic.

Mostly good talk on here. I agree with several of you. The big speculation is why was he going there. Why did Brandon go to that spot. We have no one that was close to him and that saw him that night stating that he told he was going there. Also it's not a place we would assume he would go. Most likely he would have went home or crashed at a friend's house. So I think he either went there to catch someone there, someone or something he was ashamed of as he didn't tell anyone or someone was expecting him. In either case this would have led to an altercation and Brandon would have won this fight or intimidated the person enough that they shot because they were afraid but not in a self defense situation a cowardly hitting below the belt type situation. In either of these scenarios this would mean that both the killer and Brandon knew each other on some level. Note the Parents said early that they believe his killer was someone he knew but probably not well. The other situation would be that one, more or all of the four close friends that Brandon saw threat evening and night knew where and why he was going there but did not tell police, if this is true then there are more sinister things at hand. - sorry for the Ga-Lax pronunciation but I assumed it would have been just like Galaxy but dropping the Y. Cheers, Nic

Did they ever interview Brandon's girlfriend or did she take the stand? I mean if Brandon and his aunt saw the girlfriend with one of the suspects and her DNA was on the inside of his pockets, where does she fit in with all this?

Ericka, They had only called about 10 witnesses at trial. I could not find a complete list but I found nothing to suggest that Elizabeth was called to testify. So no I don't think she was called. I do believe had they gone forward with the second trial, she would have. Thanks, Nic

Elizabeth was not called as a witness. However her dna Did not match what was on Brandon private area. they have yet been able to match the dna or the palm prints. By the way the trial was a political stunt. Its so obvious. Tammy was made as joke at trail. She thought she was getting reward money! Plus she was caught not telling the truth so many times. The DA what a joke he is open statements he says he don't have any evidence. sad a lot of families hurt because of the made up trail. I hope they got sued big time.

I’m with you, Ericka, the connection with the girlfriend and suspect Harper really suspicious. It feels like the trial was horribly botched and we’ll never know for sure what happened. Great work as always, Nic and The Captain. Love your show... slurred words and all. (; Cheers!

I grew up with his family and they are good people. I seen the comment about police covering up. Hate to say it but I wouldn’t be surprised. Everybody that lives around the area knows how crooked the police are in Grayson galax and Carroll county. I honestly don’t feel like we will ever find out the truth. Which is so sad for the family.

Ericka -they would have interviewed her but the details are not known. The Sheriff's department did not release a lot of info. Actual one of the sad things about this case is the few remaining news stories that have survived online are all from the same newspaper. I believe it's the Galaxgazette.com Nic

Hard to deduce when law enforcement holds so much back, but that is the right play. When I was his age, it was not uncommon for me to be out that late and if I was, it was for one reason, to be with a girl. So as I listened to the first part, I just kept thinking, he was having some romantic meetup. Then I started to speculate that maybe he was with someone and someone else was not pleased about that. But after hearing the second episode, the motive seemed different and the explanation, plausible. However, I just can't understand how the state could go to trial with no case. How did they even get an indictment? Seems so irresponsible with double jeopardy attached. My question is, with the guy in prison, why go to trial when they did, you have time to further build a case. But politics is politics.

Love the show guys... i just found you thanks to Bob Ruff from Truth and Justice. I love true crime... but get a little too creeped out from some of the other shows. You guys make me laugh every once in a while which helps. My question or thought... he was last seen at 3:40AM at the mart... his friends last saw him at midnight? That’s almost 4 hours alone? That can’t be... where is this missing time? Who and What was he doing before the mart stop. Then after the mart stop, no one sees him for almost another 12 hours when his body is found on Sunday afternoon at 2:30PM? This also sounds ludicrous to me... someone had to see something and someone has more information... these gaps are just too long to be completely missing. I guess this case is closed but it feels off and there are a lot of loose ends still...

Jessica- it's very likely Brandon was with friends for most of that 4 hour window that you're referring to but we don't have news or police confirmation of that. He was probably killed within minutes of arriving at that location which seems very strange. You're right we need more info about what was going down that night and who he was with. Cheers, Nic

Hey Mark they got a Indictment from Richard Vaughn having people lie in front of the grand jury. He promised to let them out of jail or in one example he let one of his friends and kin out of a dui and drunk in public in exchange for made up testimony. You have to remember that Vaughn got elected for promising every one he would solve the case. Also keep in mind the Dna is not elzibeth its someone they have not been able to match. So sounds he was with a girl.

The solved murder rate in this country has been decreasing for the last few decades. What once was 90% is now down to 60%. There are a lot of factors causing this, but one factor that plays a minimal role, is police cover-up. I grow tired of hearing people suggest it, because it is so lazy and irresponsible to do so. Police incompetence, absolutely. Prosecutorial misconduct, you bet, lots of documented cases. But let's be a little more cautious with implying cops are dirty just because they didn't solve a case. We as a society are becoming too receptive to the idea of conspiracy, perhaps because we see our elected leaders use the same nonsense daily.

I wonder if on the way home Brandon had an accident with the killer. Was this place he found on the way home? Then if it was these drug dealers they didn’t want to stop off the road or have the cops come because they had drugs. Then they asked him to pull off and exchange information. He would have possibly taken out his wallet to give or Get information. They then shot him. Being a first responder. I bet the seat belt was cut by the emt with trauma shears.

Make- I am no huge BLM supporter or anything, but I am sure a big part of the falling solves crime late is actually less police misconduct and less "frame/railroad nearest plausible black guy". By any reasonable evaluation the policing in this country while still needing a lot of work has drastically improved over time. I don't think it is crazy that this might lead to fewer murder convictions not more, because justice is hard, and in many cases the facts/evidence simply do not rise to the level where you eliminate reasonable doubt. As far as this case, there doesn't seem to be any reason to suspect police misconduct. Just the normal idiocy involved in elected law enforcement. There are so many unclear facts and a killing in a secluded place with little evidence. To me this sounds like he was going there Looking for a girl or drugs or something. I don't buy at all the claim that he absolutely would not be interested in drugs, too many people say shit like that about people they barely know. Hell my sister was someone everyone she knew would have just said was a pot head from 19-22 if questioned about it, but everyone would have insisted she didn't do anything harder. Comes out years later she was secretly doing a bunch of meth. Anyway heads down there hoping to meet someone/someone's. Does and it goes bad for some reason. I don't buy that he is just randomly driving down there at 4am by himself. To be clear I am not blaming him, whatever happened he certainly didn't deserve to be shot. Did anyone ever speak to whether he had ever gone down there before, alone or with his girlfriend or another girl or whatever?
