BRIAN SHAFFER ////// 16

Brian Shaffer

Disappeared! In this episode we cover the mysterious disappearance of Ohio State Medical student Brian Shaffer. Brian was seen on security cameras several times the night he went missing. Cameras see him and friends going into a bar to celebrate the start of spring break but unfortunately cameras never see Brian leave the bar. Did something terrible happen to Brian inside the bar? Did Brian some how slip through the view of multiple cameras and meet with foul play along his short walk home? Or did Brian take off on his own leaving friends and family behind to hopelessly search for him?

Brian Shaffer went missing April 1st, 2006. It's been almost ten years since this young, bright med student disappeared from the Ohio state university campus. At the time of his disappearance Brian was 27 years old, 6 foot 2 inches tall and 165 pounds. Brian is a Caucasian male with light brown hair, hazel eyes and he has a Pearl Jam tattoo on his upper right arm. If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Brian Shaffer please contact the Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-645-8477, if requested you will remain anonymous.

Beer of the week - Bodhi
Brought to us by the wonderful Columbus Brewing Company. This dark golden clear double IPA gets 4 and a quarter bottle caps (out of 5) on our garage beer grading system. This fantastically crafted beer smells of tropical fruit and a touch of pine. This is a deliciously smooth and easy drinking IPA. Enjoy with friends in the garage of course, cheers!

Hey Captain, Hope you're joking (it's hard to tell sometimes) about how delighted you are about all those "Russians" hitting your site. If you're serious, please be sure you have a good security system in place. Those bots can do some serious damage.

Clint/William....don't be *that* guy...do the right thing, man. It's things like this podcast that can really boost the signal and get things rolling on this case again. You never know what might be the spark that relights the fire. Great work, guys x

If someone had a gun to your head and you had to give an explanation what does your gut say happened to Brian Shaffer?

Chris I'm a scrappy fucker so I don't know if that would happen. But I like the idea. I think it's most likely he was met with foul play. i believe someone was watching him that night in the bar and either helped him out of the bar or followed him. So the killer would be on the cameras entering the bar.

Just popping in to say hi, all the way from South Africa! I'm totally addicted to True Crime and Unsolved Mysteries podcasts and saw yours reccommended on the Thinking Sideways facebook page. Wanted to comment 'cause it seemed that Captain got a kick out of seeing the locations of the listeners. Also still waiting for one of said podcasts to cover a South African serial killer, I'm sure we have a few. :) (I have a semi-interesting story about Gert van Rooyen). Anyways, keep up the good work!

Hi True Crime Garage, the Brian Shaffer story was my first podcast of yours that I have listened to. In fact, my first ever crime podcast. I recently heard about the Brian Shaffer case, which is odd as I am an Ohioan, but I did live in New York in 2006, which might explain it. This is a unbelievable story with lots of opportunities to go in different directions. A few things I was wondering. 1) Any evidence that Brian had used drugs in the past? 2) Was there a computer search history done on his computer? 3) Was there a trash chute in the bar (see the Corey Barron at Cleveland Indians game)? 4) Have forensic psychologists done an assessment of his mental state before his disappearance? In college, I often left the bar by myself at the end of the night to walk back to my dorm. I would elude my friends because I knew they would try to convince me to stay or go to an after-party, so perhaps he snuck out another entrance unseen. If he did leave with someone else, who is unaccounted for on the camera? If noone else is unaccounted for, this is telling, at least in that nothing happened at the bar. I know his friend, Clint, is catching a lot of flack for not taking a lie detector. How could he be guilty if we see him leaving the bar? From what I have read I don't get a great sense of his personality beyond he is driven, intelligent, and sociable. He might not be the first person to completely fool those around him in regards to hiding something. Although I don't tend to think this is the case. However, is it possible he was suicidal? Losing his mom, stress of med school and impending engagement. Wow, such a complicated case. I really feel for his father and his brother. To not know what happened to a family member, especially thinking he may have left on purpose. I wish for closure for his brother. Thanks for the engaging podcast. Which one do you recommend next?

Hi Lindsey all of our episodes from the first two seasons that's roughly 1-40. These are available via purchase from our store page or iTunes. We have to pay for the space occupied by all of the free episodes. The sales of these old episodes offsets some of that cost. Cheers Nic

Hi love your podcast. Sent an email to truecrimegarage@gmail.com yesterday about the Brandon Lawson case. I find that case very intriguing. Wish someone could figure out what he's really talking about in the 911 tape and so he can be found. Him and all the other missing people to bring closure for their loved ones. Keep up the good work guys.
