I still think that judge needs to be removed from the bench for finding Nick not guilty despite the evidence. Which leads me to the problems with the Casey Anthony trial. Back during the hullabaloo over the verdict of not guilty, based on the evidence I had seen the state did something it does all the time and is a serious nationwide problem: they overcharged in an attempt to forestall a trial by scaring someone into a plea agreement despite lack of sufficient evidence. While the prosecution is supposed to only charge when there is a strong likelihood of conviction, they don't often do this so a defendant who forces something to trial when the penalties are this severe (death), they can beat the charges. Instead the prosecution could have charged her under the Florida Statute 827.03-felony neglect of a child and at least gotten somewhere with that. But they refused to and gave into the media frenzy and as well as the problem of overcharging and we see what happened here.

Did you see the most recent news about the made up babysitter? It's not Zanny the nanny...its Xannie aka Xanax. She'd feed the kid pills to sleep so she wouldn't have to watch her! That connects a lot of dots in my mind!

Hi Nic and Captain, I don't have itunes so I can't review the podcast there but I thought I'd comment here just to say that I love the show- it gets me through my working day and boring commute. The Casey Anthony episodes have been particularly great. The show is thoroughly researched and production is second to none but the main reason the show is so good is because of the great banter between you both and, at the same time, it's obvious that you're both really decent people who are saying what we're all thinking (especially the Capt :)) . And I am a fellow anti-litter crusader :)

Why would Casey (or George or Cindy) lie about Casey's (obvious) pregnancy? and didn't someone say at one point that Casey didn't know who the father was? and then come up with he was killed in an auto accident? is it possible that the real biological father was involved in this murder or cover-up?

Love your show so much! I am not arguing with anything you said, just adding info:. Few flies found in trunk doesn't mean anything really. Fly life cycles complete in a predictable time, depending on environmental conditions. It takes a certain amount of time for flies to find a body, lay eggs, eggs to hatch, larvae to feed, pupate, and emerge. If body spent little time in trunk-while it was fresh- expect few to no flies. Also they can get in almost anywhere! If you're not familiar w Dr Bill Bass's work at UT Knoxville I recommend his book(s).

Well, you certainly busted my question of who Caylee's biological father was....and I'm glad. I think y'all nailed down really well. I would still, after all this time, still like to know where she was going every day dressed for work and with her little girl, and once it was established that she wasn't going to work and therefore didn't need a nanny every day, AND given the fact that there was nobody at the address she gave, it was very very clever of her attorney to keep her off the stand....if she had been on the stand, she would have gotten ripped to shreds. I think the prosecutor fell down somewhere in the process by not hammering on the fake friends, fake job, fake nanny, fake dressing up to go to the fake job. Well done, guys. Well done.

Hey guys, Right on with the way cap'n, this was always my thinking( I have to admit I had jealousy when my daughter was first born, so it's a thing), and that you can't reason with the unreasonable. I also believe she was drugging her for awhile and placing her passed out in the trunk. Which I thought could have been accidental until I found out she had to have died in the afternoon sometime. I'm still not positive if she really did it on purpose or not (she still should have fried either way) and I go back and forth over the drowning thing. If she drowned there would be no reason for the tape, but if it was overdose makes more sense give her drugs put her in the trunk and the tape over the mouth in case she wakes up to keep her quiet. But nicks timer 55 theory is so good and makes sense. Anyway great show! Lisa

Zanny the Nanny was Xanax, I think she drugged that baby regularly. That night she left her in the trunk asleep with duct tape over her mouth just in case, she got drunk and forgot to take her out of the trunk. She died from heat. It's so disgusting but I feel for the jury, the evidence wasnt there. The prosecution should have gone for a lesser charge. Troll is guilty as hell, she did kill that child.

Great episodes! What's bothering me is that Casey has admitted it was a lie and Caylee wasn't left with a babysitter but she's also saying she doesn't know what happened to her. So is she asserting she just lost Caylee and didn't know her whereabouts?!

A very interesting and deeply troubling case which, in large is reported intelligently. However, there were two things that irritated me throughout the show. Firstly, the captain referring to Casey Anthony as the troll just seemed lazy and misogynistic, and the comments that were made about her alleged rape were repulsive. Please never make light of rape, and don't degrade your otherwise great show by trying to make the way women look relevant. It isn't. Casey Anthony is clearly F@*ked up and she deserves to be in jail - but her facial features are irrelevant.

Most of the things she said never happened. And the media brought up how she looks we were just playing along and stating that she don't look that good. Nic

Hey guys, you did a great job on the Casey Anthony series. I live about two hours from the trial and 45 minutes from the jury pool, so needless to say, this story not only dominated the national news, it was concentrated in the middle of Florida, captivating us all. There are a few things that I thought of while I was listening. First, I think that the date where we see the chloroform Google search is important. The date was Sunday, March 16th, 2008. The day before St. Patrick's day. St. Patrick's day is a big party day, obviously, but especially when it's close to the weekend. That year it would be on a Monday so a lot of people will either celebrate a day before. I looked it up, and most parties, festivities and parades in the Orlando area that year were held on March 15th and 16th. My thinking is, could her search that day be because maybe she couldn't go out that weekend because she had to watch Caylee? Did she want to go out with her friends, on one of the biggest partying weekends of the year, but wasn't able to, and this was her "breaking point", and she had enough, and this is when she first looked for a way out? That's my theory on that. My second thought on this case is, going for the death penalty was a big mistake. The prosecution from the very beginning knew that the parents wanted anyone but their daughter responsible for Caylee's disappearance or death. Their testimony was vital to the case, and I'm sorry, but even if they knew for a fact their daughter was guilty, it is going to be very difficult for them...or any parent, to be the testimony that gets their child the chair. If they were going to give her life in prison, they could live with that. It would give justice to Caylee while still keeping their daughter alive. They've lost their granddaughter, possibly to their daughters hands. It would be very hard to lose their own daughter, partially because of their own hand. No, lying was not right. I have a son. If he committed a murder, I would absolutely want justice served. But if part of that justice included me, helping him walk to the gas chamber, I don't know....I just don't know. That's a great morality question that I'm not sure I know the answer to. Thanks guys, I loved the series. This is my first set of episodes. I heard Serial Killers talk about you guys, I saw the Casey Anthony episodes and dove in! I can't wait to hear more!

Hi guys! Love your pod casts. I gotta say the fool proof suffocation searches the day Caylee died pretty much sealed the guilt for me. I still remember this trial coming home for my lunch break just to catch a hour of it. Sometimes it lasted two because it was so riveting. The dysfunction of this family... Anyhow, for me I'll always wonder if they had that suffocation search at trial would it have made a difference in the verdict. And too I wonder if they overcharged, if lesser charged would she still be free today?

We shouldn't make light of rape in the same way we shouldn't make light of false accusations. This type of hyper sensitivity is the reason I avoid other podcasts as it becomes just blah. When someone's male or female and a murderer maybe we can give a pass on a very mild troll calling

I'm late to the party of course and started out with the West Memphis Three case. I have to say that I thought I knew all angles of the case but your incredible research really taught me some new things and made me think of it in a different way. I listen to you guys whenever I'm doing something tedious, which is often, and you get me through the day. This case bothers me so much. I have a three year old girl and four year old boy. I really have trouble even imagining what happened here, what led to this death. But it makes me ill and so angry that Casey is walking around free. Her parents continue to be in hell, that's evident.
