This one is pretty disappointing guys...you just played a recording. You then say it isn’t the only story, then end the show.

I know it may not seem like it from the listeners end but on our end- this was pretty much the same amount of work we typically would pout into a single episode. It was after 3 days of research that we decided to go this angle for several reasons... 1. We like to change things up a bit and personally I thought the editing was brilliant on this ep. 2. This is a HIGHLY requested case and a story that we both found too difficult for us to tell all the way. 3. Letalvis' version tells us about 50% of what happened from the perspective of the perp. He holds back (I believe) on the level of his, George's and Vanessa's involvement. This is to save his ass from the death penalty and to make his story "work" better with Vanessa's and George's version of events. Sorry to disappoint - Happy Thanksgiving - Nic

I enjoyed it. Would've liked to have heard more about the whole story, not just from trippin' dude's pov, but good ep overall. Plus, it's Thanksgiving week, give the guys a break. This is a FREE show after all.

This episode was disappointing. You gave voice to a lying scumbag that tried to explain how he wasn't involved with the vile things done by making the victim look like a whore. By playing this long narrative, you could get the assumption that this wasn't that bad of a guy and he was just caught up in it. A victim of circumstances. Channon and Chris were tortured, raped, and murdered. You didn't demonstrate how gruesome and depraved the acts done to these two innocence victims were. In addition to this, you failed the mentioned the controversy over whether this was a black on white hate crime. I expected more.

I love TCG but I'm very disappointed in this episode. This is a case I think of often because of how horrible it is. It's a nightmare. You never mentioned how horrifically these 2 people were tortured. The torture they endured was beyond belief and imagination. I understand not going into detail about the torture because it was so extreme but you didn't even mention that the torture was the worst part of this story. Horrible presentation of this case.

I really didn't like how this case was covered. I'm okay with including Letalvis' testimony but a counter narrative should have been included. Letalvis grossly minimizes his involvement. What truth was actually highlighted was limited at best.

I didn't like this episode only because the shear horror was not broken up with a "that guy's a piece of shit..." from the Captain. I'm not done listening to this lying prick as the whole thing just got me down. I can appreciate your desire to change it up but this is just too damn depressing. (paraphrased) "I'll help you" "I'll blow you if you help me" "I just said I would help you but what-the-hell, blow me" "ok!" WTF is that bullshit?! Your lie doesn't make any sense, dumbass!

I was really looking forward to this episode. Unfortunately, i was also very disappointing. I would have loved to have heard more about the truth of the crime, rather than one dirtbag's testimony. I also missed the commentary from you guys. With all that said, hearing Letalvi's side of the story was extremely disturbing, probably affected me the most out of all your podcasts.

I learned about this case a long time ago and always wondered if you guys would cover it... This case haunts me. I just hope that by not doing your typical coverage, people don't go researching on their own. Trust me, it is absolutely horrifying. I think your coverage of cases brings awareness to them but also softens the blow of the gruesome details that people would get doing their own research. That said... I can completely understand not wanting to completely cover this one in TCG fashion. From what I know about the case though, it really doesn't scratch the surface of what happened or explain to listeners exactly what sort of disgusting pieces of shit we're involved. But I don't know what would be best for the victims or their families in this situation. So I will just pray for their peace.

That one was pretty weak guys. The beer recommendation got more time devoted to it than anything about Newsome. Maybe I’m biased because I’m from the area and I remember when this happened. I’m not looking for torture porn but you did both victims a disservice by glossing over the events proceeding their deaths and in my opinion, formed a narrative that made the perpetrators look like victims under the control of Davidson. I just turned someone on to your show this week and unfortunately this will be the first to pop up in her feed. Y’all can (and usually) do better.

I agree with Kristina. I had never heard of this case and after googling it, I found that the horrific details would've been too much to handle in audio form. However, maybe it deserves a second episode to give a more accurate account of the crime. For instance, to hear Latalvis tell it, you wouldn't understand why the girlfriend that was there got so much time. When you read about her actual involvement, it makes much more sense in context.

I think those commenting here and on Instagram should be more respectful in their "constructive" criticism as I believe you guys put in SO MUCH effort every single week. It can't be easy researching cases and putting together a show. I know I can sometimes have a very emotional reaction to some of the cases and for you guys to do in depth research must mean taking on a lot of negative and depressing energy. I'm just so grateful that you even put an episode out and while it may have been good to include a counter narrative as someone else mentioned I really enjoyed the editing. Captain did a fantastic job and I loved that the audio of the testimony was clear as in many cases it's difficult to understand what's being said from second hand audio. Thanks again you two!

After listening to this episode, I briefly researched this case online. I was shocked to learn the actual details of this case, and I became quite angry at how you chose to present the case. In fact, you guys really didn’t present anything that does justice to the truth or the victims. All you did was play the self-interested confession of a murdering piece of shit who was trying to save his own skin. In so doing, you bizarrely chose to give one of the killers a platform, while allocating nothing to the victims and the truth. 5 minutes of research about this case reveals the confession you played to be watered down lies by a coward, a rapist, and a killer. What were you thinking? This episode disrespects the victims and their families. Fuck him...and you for giving him air time.

I am a huge fan but admit I was disappointed in this episode - not so much that it was mostly a prerecording so didn’t hear much from the hosts. My main disappointment was that it gave too much voice to the killer who clearly was minimizing his and his girlfriend’s involvement while also not explaining just how absolutely horrific these killings were and their role. I had never heard of the case and read about it afterwards. It minimizes the torture, the repeated sexual assault of both victims, the pouring bleach down the living woman’s throat to destroy evidence and throwing her in the garbage to suffocate when done. It didn’t go into the diary entry by the speaker’s girlfriend who talked about how exciting the weekend was as well as the speaker’s role. By doing this, it felt like rhe Victims were victimized again. If you want to do a prerecording like this I would recommend more of a commentary on how much it deviates from evidence and/or focus on victims voice such as through relatives.

If I may add, I believe a lot of negative comments came from the fact that people like to listen to TCG not only for the stories but also for the 2 amazing hosts who tell them. I can understand how disappointed a lot of fans have been not being told the story from the mouths of Nic and the Captain. I personally think the same, I listen to TCG for the true crime stories that you guys have selected and plan to share each week. I also feel like the perpetrators don’t deserve to be listened to on a podcast. As hard as that story must have been hard to tell, I really wished it would have been described as usual, by Nic and the Captain. It’s like waiting for the ice cream truck every week but the ice cream truck comes and there is only dry oatmeal served…what a bummer ☹ This being said, I will forever be an unconditional fan of your show and I do understand that you guys need to play around with the way things are done once in a while but I vote for stories told by the hosts. I also think that people should of calmed down and give constructive comments and not just bash the way this episode has been done. Keep up the good work, love you guys!

I think the episode was totally compelling and brillianly edited and I like it when there are occasional episodes done in a different style. However, far more needed to done to present the case in it's deserved light. As a UK resident, I'd never heard of this case and after listening, I only knew one perpetrator's account of it, an account which no doubt is riddled with untruths, distortions and cherry-picked facts. I think it would have made an absolutely kick-ass part one, with a proper presentation follwing in a part two. If the case involved dreadful torture then just spare the details if it's too much.

I would have loved to hear more commentary from other players or at least your thoughts on this case. There are definitely some controversies surrounding the trials to be explored if nothing else.

I found your podcast a few months ago and have listened to most of them. I was looking forward to this episode. This one was too disturbing and misleading - one minute I'm thinking his brother's a dick and the narrator was afraid for his life - the next minute he talks about giving the woman held captive water and essentially forcing her to give him ....ugh. Your narrative, walking us through is much easier to take even when it's horrific. Your research and the production quality might be excellent but I really hope that you don't continue to produce any more episodes in this fashion. I was hoping that my first comment here would to be to tell you how much I love the show - I normally do. I went from LOVING the podcast 5 stars to UGH no stars. What makes the show is the two of you. Anyone can read about crime on the internet, or listen to the other multitudes of true crime podcasts....we come to listen to you guys for your banter and presentation.

Another reminder that there is pure evil out there? As I listened to this pathetic excuse for a human try to diminish his role, I so badly wish I could have been in the interrogation room to slam this piece of shit's head against the wall. You are listening to the guy act so upset about what was happening, stuff beyond his control, and he did his best to help the victim by forcing her to give him oral sex. These are the cases that make me cling to capital punishment, even though the system is flawed. One thing, could you please ask the Captain to stop saying "my show" when he is reading the commercial ads. "Our show" is the appropriate phrase, I don't think the advertisers will mind.

I was heartened and surprised when I saw this episode. It is one usually ignored due to the fact that it is a black on white hate crime with the most gruesome savage acts of violence and torture I have ever read about (at least in America). I admired your bravery. Then I listened to the episode. I am a big fan, but I was sorely disappointed. The only platform was given to one of the perpetrators, not the victims who were tortured, raped, murdered, and now have no voice. These victims were slandered by the perp...how is that fair? I was disappointed, but not surprised. This case has never been given its proper time in the spotlight and we all know why.

Then I listened to the episode. I am a big fan, but I was sorely disappointed. The only platform was given to one of the perpetrators, not the victims who were tortured, raped, murdered, and now have no voice. These victims were slandered by the perp...how is that fair?

So disappointed in this one guys. I'm sure you did your research on the case but it really seemed like you didn't want to do the normal amount of commentary (recording) work on it. There was SO much more to this case than what was covered. I know Thanksgiving probably played a part. I would have rather you took the week off rather than covered like this.

TCG always has the right to change it up and try new things, you have earned the right. My problem with this episode is that it glossed over so much, all but ignoring most of the tangible facts. All we hear is one piece of shit trying very unsuccessfully to diminish his role in what happened. The question is, what did happen? We don't really know. It was almost as if we turned into a mini-series 3/4 of the way through. I figure this was a quickie episode to pop in there on a short week (Thanksgiving). Not my thing, but so be it, it is your show. I know there are problems with capital punishment, but when I hear about things like this, I just want to execute all of the people that were in that house.

  • A bit chilling ...honestly, a lot chilling and horrified. Respect the angle chosen for this episode. After all yall are the cool kids with podcast, the critics are not! Episode recommendation? Perhaps more episodes with diversity. It's quite difficult being "black" and missing/murdered. In many true crime shows/podcasts, the only time mentioned if the douche canoe was of a different race. Believe it or not, your audience is quite diverse and open. Challenged accepted? Peace and Love

I think everyone is being a bit harsh here. I understand a lot of you are upset with the format of this episode. I personally don’t have a problem with it as do we rarely ever hear a criminals side to the story (even if it is pure bullshit). Do you guys think you can revisit this as a 2 parter? I think the majority of us would like to hear your opinions on this case and the real story of what happened here, instead of just this douche canoes version.

I echo that we missed the Nic/Captain commentary which is what makes TCG so special, but I also thought this was an interesting episode (and appreciate the reasons Nic listed to why they chose to do it this way). That dude was trippin and I hope both he and his crew of scumbags never see the light of day again!!!

As someone who has been sexually assaulted, I could REALLY have used a heads-up about the graphic content here, given directly from the perpetrator's mouth with no commentary or explanation. What the heck, guys?? This dude is VILE, and I would have wanted to know what I was getting into before I would have pressed "play" on this particular content.

I didn’t mind the format, but having read these comments and did a little digging on this and I think the mission on this story missed the mark. I ended the episode feeling sorry for Vanessa, who based on what I have subsequently read was actually a total monster, too. You didn’t have to go through the goriest of details (that’s why we have the interwebs) but you soft pedaled this so much, I actually thought the girl might get away in the end in a “left for dead” sort of way.

A lot of negativity about the format of this episode. Both here and on reddit. I personally found it interesting to hear the story from the mouth of the perpetrator. I was kind of hoping that we could hear the story from multiple (maybe even all five) perspectives. This is a well documented case and the events are absolutely heinous. It’s easy to see why the perps would try to downplay the events that actually happened.

@Lisa I do know that some other podcasts give a generic warning before each episode but I think it's safe to say that a true crime podcast will hold triggers, whether it be sexual, physical, child or emotional abuse in nature. It's probably best to assume that the topic and/or details of any of the episodes will be disturbing and possibly triggering. @True Crime Garage Before this episode, I have never heard of this case and am glad you shared it. Though the format was different than your normal style, I still enjoyed it. I missed the banter though!

Disappointing, this case, the Newsome and Christian family, deserved at the least a 2 part podcast to cover this. I grew up 30 miles outside of Knoxville. This case wasn't covered enough when it happened in January of 2007, by National news. These thugs are liars. I followed the live coverage on the trials. Playing the recordings of them lying was a waste of time.

On April 4, 2018, it was reported that, on March 20, 2018, eleven years after the conclusion of the original litigation, trials, and verdicts, a Knox County grand jury had returned a thirty-six count indictment charging Eric DeWayne Boyd with first-degree felony murder, first-degree premeditated murder, especially aggravated robbery, especially aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated rape in the murders. Boyd was transported from a Federal Correctional Institution in Yazoo City, Mississippi and booked into the Knox County Jail and held on a $1,000,000 bond.

New listener here and really enjoy your Podcast so far. Love your no frills approach and discussion. After listening to this episode, I do agree a second part would have been very interesting to juxtapose what Letalvis said versus details of the crime and murder without going too much into the gruesome details. It was fascinating listening to him at first and really shows how bias is created in the way information is presented. (I don't think that's what you guys were doing here or what you do on your Podcast, but some Podcasts do create bias...Serial...cough...cough... ) Anyway, I found myself getting caught up in Letalvis' narrative but as it went along, you start to realize he's a scum bag without even knowing his true involvement. He paints quite the innocent picture of Vanessa as well and I'd like to hear more about her involvement. Thanks and keep up the great work!

this case hit close to home for me as I live just minutes from Knoxville, tn , this was a senseless murder with no rhyme or reason, those killers are heartless. I am happy someone actually covered this case, and truth be told they didn't even scratch the surface as to the horrors these two people endured. What got to me is the two at the home could have helped this girl at least if they had just let her go or called 911. they made that choice to not help so they are just as guilty as the one that murdered them These families have lost so much and for what reason? NONE

I love your show and I'm very, very familiar with this crime. I was looking forward to this episode but it fell very flat. I, for one, did appreciate the recording but why not make it a two part episode then? It feels as if you guys are scared to talk about the torture of two white kids by five black ones. Not a good look.

I'm a little bummed on this one too, there was so much more to this case. It was a terrible time for our community. That said, its hard for me to be objective because I live about 2 miles from where it happened, between where they were carjacked and Chipman. Maybe you guys could take another run at it some other time. I still appreciate the podcast and know firsthand that the details of this case are horrific and hard to shake off once you hear them.

Gruesome and horrendous brutality. Totally unnecessary crime. The episode was well done and illustrated the complete BS from the perpetrators, blaming everyone but themselves.
