So sad and disturbing, a family can never completely recover from this. Just one of the many horrifying incidents from my town. This crime is so awful that even now it's still talked about here. As far as local law enforcement not thoroughly searching for her, it's not the only case where they've just not taken it seriously enough. The 90's were not a good time for them in regards to doing their part in searching for the missing. The Kristen Smart case is another prime example of that.

Wow an episode from my home area. I was a senior at morro bay high when this happened and it got absolutely no news time. AG was a pretty small coastal town like the rest of the area at the time, but there was a high number of homeless teens. Everyone would look for couches to sleep on during Thursday night farmers market.

There is something so deeply sick about the boys returning to rape her corpse, it sickens me. And the fact that all of the boys engaged in this is somehow even more disturbing than the murder. That just intensifies the depravity another layer.

Early on, did the cops try to find the guy the parents said she had been talking to? The one who was suspended? Seems like it shouldn’t have been hard to get that info from the school. I was almost baffled by how straightforward this case was. A group of acquaintances just killed her. And apparently they had tried before. It’s hard to imagine several young people having such evil intentions at the same time. I agree with Captain that it’s not the fault of music, movies, or video games. I’ve watched violent movies and shows, but I know how to separate that from reality. Someone has to be pretty messed up to emulate that in real life. Anywho, thanks for the episode and Happy Halloween!

@ Amanda - its unclear if the parents knew who the boy was who called her home. The info about the boy and boys came out the day she was found after the police notified her parents that someone confessed and remains were found. Cheers Nic

good job condensing to 1 episode. much less filler. Never a fan of slayer myself. The bands beliefs aside (none of which I agree with), just didn't like their style/music and raining blood is vastly overrated. I do like me some metal though, as Parkway Drive is my favorite band. Anyways, very sad case and I feel bad for the family. These scumbags deserve any and all punishment given to them in this life and the next.

I don’t quite follow the whole discussion around chat rooms. 1995 was so early in terms of the internet and chat rooms. I don’t think AOL chat was even available until maybe 1997 or 1998. I have a hard time following that 3 losers were that involved in chat rooms in 1995. Maybe I’m totally wrong but they were all in my age group at that time and we were definitely not using chat rooms. We still used pagers to get ahold of our friends in 1995.

    - I'm unaware of the chat rooms. The Captain spoke about this, I believe it though. I'm a year old than Elyse Pahler but I do remember friends of mine in chat rooms - this would have been 96. I can't speak to certainty about 95 though. Cheers Nic

Slayer not part of the Big 4. If I wasn't sitting already think I would have fallen down ( not Michael Douglas style)

Sad episode. A girl snuck out a few times like we’ve all done, and ends up murdered for absolutely no reason whatsoever other than some young sickos, who would’ve seemed to her like innocent rebels with no idea about the real world, felt like they had to kill her just because she was a nice, trusting, easy target. People like her are the last people who should ever die. Could’ve been be any of our daughters (or sons) and I honestly don’t know how the hell i’d react if it was my kid. Before I go, I can’t really see the point to the low-key Slayer bagging that went on on the episode, they were a great, utterly seminal metal band who were around well before Pantera and certainly were a part of the big four American metal bands at the time. It ain’t their fault whatsoever that this sick act happened, any more than you can hold anything against say Judas Priest or The Beatles. For a podcast team who apparently holds someone like Tupac and his image in such amazingly high esteem I would’ve though a bit more acknowledgement to slayer. Do appreciate that you stopped short of actual disrespect though, kudos to that. All said, another top episode guys, appreciate the years of work.

This episode made me sick to my stomach. That poor girl. If anyone deserves the death penalty, it's these three losers. (Preferably the gas chamber or electric chair, rather than lethal injection in this case.) And for the record, Pantera sucks, boys.

For the record, Slayer is not deserved of comparison to Pantera. Pantera far exceeds them in any comparison of greatness one wants to bring up. RIP, Elyse and Dimebag. By the way, Dimebag's death could be an interesting show topic.

If Pantera were to replace one of the 4 it should be Anthrax. Slayer is far better than Pantera.
