Seems like a lot of cases involving kids, recently. Tough to listen to. Not that murders of adults are not disturbing but the kid stuff... I just can’t listen anymore.

I might be mistaken , but I remember that Misty and Ronald had only been dating for 2 weeks on the night of Haleighs disappearance . So her not really sure of all details about birth and height and weight . So that kinda explains this away in my opinion . In regards to this whole situation. What i find weird is that Pops is not looking for his daughter . He is already dead set on her being abducted . So In my opinion these actions mean that the kids were left alone in the home with no Adult supervision. And when they returned ( Either Brandon and Misty both , or just Misty ) and now they are just trying to fix their wrongdoings. But I find it hard to believe that if it was just Misty who left the children alone that Brandon would be protecting and covering for a girl whom he has only been in a 2 week long relationship with. Then let’s remember that Misty just a week before spent a weekend with another “gentlemen “ where they Did lots of Drugs and had lots and lots of sex !! So is that another angle to drive down ?? Many uncomfortable circumstances regardless. I just know that these wonderful and inspiring citizens are just so SHADY ass hell . I unfortunately do not believe a word that has come out of their mouths .

Dear Patrick . Hey Man . I can understand your uncomfortableness when it comes to cases like this . But I gotta let you know my stance on it . As hard as it is to listen to , i Do want to listen . I find the more of us that know about missing Children cases and all the details , hopefully someone listening has that perfect Question or has that perfect tip , that can help find one of these Missing Children , or a tip that someone knows something about what happened . And Justice can be done . But more importantly, the Child can be found . Don’t give up just yet ..... unless you truly cannot go on listening . But it is not going away ...... Thanks for listening

To the Captain's point about Ronald being in the room during the 911 call, I thought that Misty saying "I was cleaning" might have been for his benefit. He's already yelling at her for "getting [his] daughter took." She probably does not want to piss him off anymore, and is trying to win points with him. It is a way for her to say to Ron, "See? I was being a good girlfriend/mother figure/wife figure. I was cleaning like I should have been." Whether she was cleaning, doing laundry, or sleeping, I think it is important to remember that this is a scared teenager who does not want her boyfriend to be mad at her.

Sorry friends, but this lady sounds like a dope. Not knowing specific details of the child, even if only dating a couple weeks, is lame. Hell, it is not hard to know the hair, eye, and skin color. Clothing that was worn that day. I mean, all of these details help officers when they release the BOLO or AMBER alert. Just blows my mind.

When I hear that garage door closing in the beginning it’s like a cathartic sound! Like after waiting a week, I finally have my TCG back and my heart is a little bit lighter! Weird because it’s about murders and stuff, but ya know....to each his own. Really dug the music on this one! And the “little chains” comment by the Captain cracked me up!

I am listening to part 1 and Ronald's whole attitude during the 911 call seems contrived. When he hangs up the second time, it sounds like he says, "Give me my f***ing phone, I got better f***ing people to talk to than the people that ain't comin'". His whole reaction just seems very off to me.

Hey guys listen to you all the time. I have listened to every single episode but this one here bothers me the absolute most. I have kids of my own and this one just hits home for me. Mostly because of the little brother that has to go through all of this. I just don’t understand why some parents have to be the way that they are. The way the dad was acting in the 911 call is ridiculous, I understand being upset but instead of yelling across the room he should be outside looking everywhere he can for this little girl. I don’t remember hearing of this story and I know it was some years ago. It’s just sad, all very sad for the little ones.

Hey guys — thank you for covering this case, it’s always stuck with me as the #1 case I’d like to see solved. What Capt said at the end was right, Haleigh was really surrounded by awful people, (a bunch of asshats / pieces of shit / trash human beings), that were responsible for her death, so it’d seem that the chance of solving this case and finding Haleigh is higher than other cases you guys have covered. Sorry if the following questions were discussed on the show, I listened intently to the episodes but at times was losing my cool so apologies if I missed the following: 1) Before Misty came into the picture and became the children’s caregiver while Ron was working, who was watching the children before Ron met Misty? 2) Misty mentions that she called Ron ‘like 20 times,’ has this confirmed via call logs? They are both saying the same statement in that regard, that they both had called each other 20 times and the other one didn’t answer. Seems implausible that this many phone calls would be going back and forth with them missing each other 100% of the times. 3) why do pieces of shit have children and insist on raising them?!

Hey Kelly - Great Questions! 1. It’s my belief that Ronald’s mother was providing a huge amount of child care for both of the children. I do believe that HaLeigh’s bio parent did love her but they could not through their own fault care for her. I think Ronald’s mother provided the best care she could for her grandchildren and at the end of the day likely loved them more than anyone. 2. The call logs are in Ronald’s favor... meaning he called her many times and she did not answer. LE has the text messages he sent her as well. 3. P.O.S.’s rarely choose to have children but end up having children. These are often individuals that can’t think pass next week. The good ones step up and become awesome parents the others rely on others for a lot of help and assistance. Some always consider the child a problem and burden. Birth control / condoms are so much cheaper than trying to care for a child that the two never wanted but again they can’t think pass next week. Regardless on anyone’s opinions of birth control, what is important is that we all behave like smart adults and consider the consequences of our actions. If we truly understand the consequences well then embrace the responsibility. Being a parent is a privilege. Cheers to the awesome parents! Nic

This case is interesting because basically the 2 questions the Captain brought up “are ya stupid or are ya a Lier” I actually think it is strongly both. We clearly know that Misty is far from the sharpest tool , I don’t even think she is in the shed actually and the lies well that’s clear too. She was dissing Her boyfriends calls because she was where she knew he didn’t want her to be. The missing of all those calls doesn’t have to be because of Haleigh or at least not all of them. I mean when you are young and u don’t want someone to know what you are up to u don’t pick up the phone. Hell I do that sometimes now. Anyway this means she was probably at this party that many people have said they saw her at. Now what happened there? That’s the part where all the crazy and many different scenarios could play. The accidental death of some kind seems the more likely and these kids panicked and hid here somehow. I also think the fact that she is in jail now for a pretty long sentence and not giving information is her own fear of being convicted of this crime which may lead to a longer sentence or worse. It is so sad the environment they all have grown up in, it has obviously played a part in this tragedy.

I'm only part way through the first episode, but regarding the dispatch question regarding if the door, I think I hear Misty say "let me get back there" or "back in there". I don't think she was confused or didn't know the word pry. Kids get extra long hugs after episodes like these.

Just a thought, not stating this defnitively. What about if the mom was high and while she was asleep rolled over and accidentally killed Haleigh? And upon waking up saw what happened, immediately went into a panic because she was high and did not realize what happened and then got rid of the body? To me this is a highly likely cause, but I'd like to see what other people think.

You guys said to come here and discuss the case, I am afraid I don't have much nice to say to this case. I seriously feel all these people are POS's, I feel like the capt now saying "yous a piece of sh^t" and I will say it Country Florida style "youall's a piece of sh&t". That poor little girl didn't deserve the pieces of garbage she had as parents, guardians, babysitters (it seems all misty was was a druggie, pill popping sexing up the dad) babysitter for those kids. Believe me I know life isn't easy, drugs are hard to get off, and when you have a hard life it sucks, but give those children up for adoption, there are so many people that can't have children, who love children and this breaks my heart as I do not have any children and will not have any biological children. I know people are innocent til proven guilty, but those disgusting human beings are all guilty of being POS and I hope somehow they can be kept in jail as long as possible. and some day, they will get what they deserve, may not be today or tomorrow or on this world, but it will happen. Boo hoo Misty had a hard life, boo hoo, then get help if you have time to talk about how hard your life is and whine about it, get help. The only justice is that I can bet someone addicted to pills and drugs had some pretty bad withdrawals in jail, and I hope it sucked for them all. and I hope they had to sit there and vomit and hallucinate and feel like death all by themselves. Sorry to be so mean this week, this just breaks my heart, that sweet Haleigh didn't deserve this like Kaylee didn't deserve having a POS mother. I just hope little Ron Jr had a better life and someone was able to show the boy love and happiness that children should have.

Only 50 mins into episode 1, but have to say your expecting reactions based on living in Ohio. I've grown up in the south, and know guys just like him. The "I'll kill em' comments are just posturing. And throw common sense out the door. He's not trying to hinder anything by not answering the questions, he just doesn't understand the point of answering these questions. That...and also he doesn't know the answer so he resorts to anger. He doesn't know the DOB at the moment. He doesn't know what PJs she was wearing. But I know lots of guys whose reactions would be very similar. Looking forward to the rest of the episode!

Is anyone really sure this little girl actually went missing the night they called 911? Something could have easy happened the day or the day before and they came up with all this story to cover there tracks. To me it all just seems to planned out.

Hi guys! Another great show. Just wanted to add my 2 cents, for what it's worth. While discussing the 911 call, you guys discussed Misty answering "4" about the time the operator was asking about height/weight. Could Misty possibly have been trying to jump ahead to tell the operator that Haleigh was about 4 years old? Yes, Haleigh was in reality 5 years old, but I get the impression that Misty was basically guessing, as she did for the weight. So...for example, if someone asked me how old my neighbor's kid is, I would say, "4 years old", even though it's a rough idea. Again, it's that thought process of trying to give the information quickly, even if it's slight off, as it will give police and other searchers some idea this is not a teenager. I suppose in the long run, this detail isn't crucial, but thought I'd throw that out as a possibility. Captain is completely right with what he said about Haleigh. We may never know what happened to her, but she had the deck stacked against her being surrounded by so many bad people obsessed with drugs instead of her well-being. Based on all that happened, I hope Haleigh's brother has been removed from this situation and placed in a better environment so something similar doesn't happen to him too.

In misty’s Interview at beginning of episode 2 she says that she tried to call him 20 times with no answer. But he stated to police that he tried to call her 20 times with no answer. I’m curious did they swap phones because he was screaming where is my phone during the 911 call

Listening to one of the Stitcher Off the Record shows, you were discussing a "Five things you need to know about..." article involving a psycho POS. Captain was critical of the writer noting the political choices of that particular psycho, as if it had some relevancy. It was despicable, but we see a lot of that now, and I appreciated The Captain catching and jumping on that point, and calling out this type of "journalism."

I am surprised by the stance u and the Cpt. Took Nic. I get your theory about “are they trying to be helpful or not” I agree with all the rest u said except one part of your 911 dissection... I would have acted the exact same way when she asked birthdate. I got mad when she asked that as I was listening. That’s fine for later on, but right now In the heat of the moment, we told u what happened as far as we know, what she looks like, what she’s wearing and where we live. That should be enough for now, I mean what’s next “is she left or right handed? What’s her favorite color” It’s not like the cops are gonna find a girl matching the description and say oh she’s a June baby not an August ok let her go no need to dig deeper. If it was me I would have hung up on that one too and ran outside to start frantically searching (true he probably didn’t do that).

Ugh, that poor girl! I hate seeing these cycles: person has rough childhood -> person grows up messed up -> person has their own kids and doesn't know how to be a good parent. Captain was spot on at the end about how sad it is that Haleigh didn't even get the chance to grow up and try to make a better life for herself. I don't hold it against Misty that she didn't know Haleigh's height and weight. I'm 32 years old, well-educated, and I'm STILL terrible at estimating those things. Her dad definitely should know her birthday though. Ronald's behavior during the 911 call definitely bothered me. Yes, we all react differently to stressful situations. But as you guys said, all the yelling and threatening to kill the abductor was not doing anything useful for the situation. I suspected early on that he was involved, and was surprised to hear that most of the suspicion is now on Misty. I guess Ronald's an asshole, but not necessarily guilty. You mentioned Misty saying she checked under the bed, but that the mattress was right on the floor. My impression from your initial description is that the kids' bed was on the floor, but the master bed had a frame. Did I misunderstand that? You nailed it in your post, Nic. Having children CANNOT be taken lightly, and people cannot afford to not think about the consequences of their actions. You are raising another human being. If you can't manage that, either don't have the child, or give it the chance to be raised by someone else who DOES have time for them.

Then to prevent conflict of interest putnam county Had St. Johns County set up multiple pill buys to put them all in jail since they couldn’t get a solid case with the disappearance of Halle

Hey Guys! My thought about the 20 calls from Ron to Misty on the night Haleigh disappeared is because he was checking up on Misty. She had cheated on him recently and I bet he called initially for whatever reason, couldn't get a hold of her, thought she may be cheating again and then just kept calling and calling, getting more angry and suspicious with each unanswered call.

I just wanted to say that one of the reasons I suspect the dads involvement is the fact that he was immediately suggesting an abduction was likely to blame. I have 5 children. They are my whole world and I am a very attentive mother and proud to be so <3 But it would be an absolute lie to say that I have never lost a child briefly in a clothing rack at Target, or briefly panicked when I thought they were on the slide only to discover they pulled a Speedy Gonzalez over to the swings when I glanced away for two seconds. And so in this situation, I would not be in the house next to someone who is capable of calling 911. I would divide and conquer and be running around outside or in the house looking everywhere to see if my child was hiding or out be the little explorer that all children that age are. To argue that the condition of the door made it unlikely for a child to get out on their own is silly to me. Kids are Houdinis and they watch everything adults do. We often don't give kids enough credit for how ingenuitive and intelligent and brave they are (fear comes from knowing dangers more often than the not knowing them.) In conclusion, I think it's just as likely that she wandered off and was harmed while in Misty's care, and the father feared the latent consequences that would come on him for leaving the children in the care of a known drug user. She may not even have wandered off. Maybe she got into a cleaning solution and got ill because she wasn't being watched. Maybe that's why she soiled the bed even. I have found that there is often a grain of truth to be found in lies. That is what makes them so believable sometimes. So maybe Misty saying she was cleaning and she had to wash her sheets and she was wearing a pink shirt are all correct. Maybe she also brought up the fact that she was cleaning before Haleigh disappeared to explain away a newly cleaned house, that was maybe only cleaned because Haleigh died or got fatally sick there. Just my two cents :)

Easiest thing in the world to have kids, one of the most difficult things in the world to raise them. This poor little girl was doomed from the start. I feel bad for her brother's future as well. Misty was put in a position she should have never been in. She was uneducated, had no self-esteem, and was way too immature to be raising two kids for an abusive piece of shit that was too old for her. She could not even raise herself. I think most of the people in this case were so dullened by drug use that they really did not care what happened to this little girl. I think a lot of people know what happened, but fear of being connected to drug charges and fear of retribution has shut them up.

"I've got better ppl to call than..." The POLICE!? Seriously dude, shut it. DOB needed for Amber Alert which the DISPATCHER is responsible for entering once an abduction missing/vulnerable is confirmed by on scene personnel. Also PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: When you are providing information to a 911 dispatcher THAT PERSON is not the person coming to help (as my spirit animal calltaker said) & you are NOT WASTING TIME by providing much needed identifiers to the person gathering, disseminating & ENTERING said info locally & nationally. But yeah, hang up on 911 & call your mom & friends because THEY are the ones that can get canines, search & rescue & birds in the air right? Grandma can't fix it bro- settle your ass. This dispatcher KICKED ASS & THANK GOD our instincts to DO THE JOB & protect the child's best interest will alway override the desire to put ignorance in it's place & snap. I applaud this calltaker big-time-- but after soooo many years of "you can't fix stupid" I also am not afraid to desperately deploy my "SIR!!! 👏LISTEN 👏 TO 👏 ME 👏 NOW👏!!! I want to help you HELP ME HELP YOU NOW" card if pushed to bitch mode. #ControlYourCaller Also: instinct tells me that this 17yo sweet baby angel had her hands FULL. She doesn't know SHIT.
