Mary Pinchot Meyer ////// 62

Truecrimegarage.com

In the 60's there was little doubt that America was changing. The debate has always been and remains, who was in charge of those changes. Mary Pinchot Meyer, a divorced smart woman in her forties with ties to the CIA and the White House is just one of several that may have been silenced in that era of change and social growth. October 12, 1964 Mary went out for her usual midday stroll to get some fresh and air and maybe a little inspiration. While out walking near the C & O canal Mary was attacked. She was shot twice, died practically instantly and left for someone to find. Police make an arrest and the trial is set. But do they have the right guy? Or was Mary killed by some shadowy agency because of an affair with the late President Kennedy and because she "knew too much." This week in the garage we take a look at the unsolved murder of Mary Pinchot Meyer and find out what we know.

Awesome intro (music/speech). As a side note, our public figures don't speak like this anymore

Who knew the Captain hated JFK so much? Nic, you need to calm him down so you can speak!

Can I request in part two that the Captain spend another 40 minutes expressing his undying love for Mary Pinchot Meyer, all while slandering a great man like JFK.

Mr. Admiral, The old captain may have gone on a little too long blowing kisses Mary's way but I think he just got sidetracked. Not sure if it came through on the show or not but after I dove into this case and learned more about Mary, she's very appealing. She may have been even more appealing to my generation than JFK's or Cord's. She was very much a lady in every sense of the word. She is also one of the very few examples of high society meets hippie, that's a rare and fetching breed my friend! Cheers and Happy Thanksgivng! Nic

During your discussion you wax lyrical about how much of a free-thinker Mary was - perhaps but be advised that both The Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan and The Group by Mary McCarthy appeared in 1963 - the Seven Sisters and women who attended them were not average Americans. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Sisters_(colleges)

Being very familiar with the topic, I was really looking forward to this podcast. Unfortunately, this has been a rather disappointing episode. I was constantly asking myself what kind of added value the Captain brings to the show. JFK was a whore? First of all, everybody knew that he was an unfaithful womanizer, even back in the day. Pinchot, Monroe, Exner, Dickinson... Never knew he got paid for it, though. If he knew a little more about JFK, like he wasn't really supposed to be alive at all by 1960 due to all of his illnesses, he would perhaps find a reason to understanding that behavior. Guess that's to much to ask. I really loved that you used that great speech of his.

Karen I apologize as I am a bit of an uneducated man but I have been to England and found London and its people to be very charming. It felt like an older more polite NYC. In the great state of Ohio we say shire not sheer. So it will always make us think of little grassy villages that house hobbits. Cheers, Nic

Mike, I appreciate your contribution to the blog however I must call foul here friend. Whore was a joke of course, sometimes in the garage we are not so literal so please don't be so critical. I am a very big fan of JFK and most of his ideals however he was a party boy for most of his days leading up to the presidency. He only needed a wife and kids to further his career. He was sleeping with anyone he wanted to from 1953-60 when he was a senator and most likely the same when he was a Rep from 1947-53. I'm not sure what you mean by "not suppose to live pass 1960" is that his back and joint problems that he suffered or the reoccurring venereal disease that he had? Regardless you sound like you probably know your stuff and anyone that has spent ample time researching JFK and the assignation has my respect. It's a big and confusing situation. The garage does not run without my Captain so he is onboard until I torch the damn garage. What I and the others would like for you to post is your JFK assignation theory. Please do it here, I want to know. Thanks Mike we like the cut of your JIB! Cheers, Nic

Don't get me wrong, this case is fascinating, and you're doing a great job sharing it with us. I'll be honest, though- I'm dying to have you cover the JFK assassination and its surrounding theories. Keep up the great work!

Would it be possible to go over the Jacob Wetterling murder outnof Minnesota? I know it's been solved but it was something that most Minneostains all know about.

Hi Nic, Like Mike mentioned above, I can think of very few times when Captain has actually positively contributed to this podcast. Episode after episode, I find myself shaking my head when he speaks as he just adds noise to your podcast. I don't want to sound like an internet troll so I'll wrap this up without anymore attacks, but I'd love to hear you branch off and do your own thing or add another cohort that adds some sort of substance. Happy holidays.

I was really struck by the JFK speech. I found the transcript and have posted a section of it on my FB page. How things have changed! By the way, love the show. Just discovered it recently. Enjoying it at work. Especially since I can't bring myself to listen to NPR as much as I used to. So, thanks.

I just listened to these episodes, and I came here to say that the Captain is an amazing addition to the show, and his comic relief is much appreciated. Also, I enjoyed that he is clearly a feminist and made remarks about Mary's intelligence before her beauty. The more I listen, the more I sense that the Captain is woke, and the more I like this podcast.

For me generally, anything to do with politics causes an immediate disinterest, but I really loved this episode. I felt there was a period in this episode where the captain when full feminist.. love it!

I was so looking forward to this one in particular - what is up with the Captain on this one? Let Nic speak! I've studied the Kennedys for years and this guy knows nothing, clearly. And to keep calling him a whore was disgusting. He keeps interrupting Nic to say the same thing over and over (a lady ahead of her time) and adding nothing to the conversation other than to insult or criticize Nic. Nic man, why are you so subservient? You're such a good host. I had to turn it off.
