Oakland County Child Killer ////// 28

Oakland County Child Killer ////// 28

www.TrueCrimeGarage.com

February 15th, 1976 boys and girls started to go missing just north of Detroit in Oakland County Michigan. Police and investigators suspected 7 children and young adults had been abducted and held captive for 4-19 days and then laid out neatly near businesses and houses. The Oakland County Child Killer was also nicknamed the Babysitter because the kids appeared to have been well taken care of and well fed while being held captive. This unknown serial killer even washed and pressed the victim's cloths and bathed them before discarding the bodies. This person was never caught but it goes a lot further than that. Nic & the Captain gather once again in the garage and discuss this tragic case including lots of little known information that may help to shed some light on one of America's most famous cold cases.

Beer of the week: Two Hearted Ale by Bell's Brewing Inc.

Hey guys! Love listening to this podcast. I am not sure if you're aware but the father of one of the victims is running a blog to bring more awareness to this case to gets some answers and justice. It's at http://afathersstory-occk.com/. The sister of the same victim has had her own blog for a few years as well, https://catherinebroad.wordpress.com/. Both blogs give so much more detail that was never and is still not known in the general media, and actually contradicts much of what is known publicly. There is also a book in the works about this case, an excerpt can be found here: https://medium.com/@J.Reuben.Appelman/blood-semen-saliva-prints-3fdab84c73d7#.dg0jrhxp5

Guys, The Captain implied a few times during this episode that the area these kids disappeared from might not have been so great. Actually, Oakland County is a rather wealthy area. At the time I believe it was the third "richest" county in the country. I just wanted to clarify. Also, I love that the captain called out Nic on saying "MAYsuring" instead of "measuring" in one of the podcasts. If I could, I'd also like to ask that he quit saying "Narvana" (it's Nirvana) and "Exspecially" (it's especially). Even with all the cringeworthy pronunciations though, I still love listening to you guys. Keep up the good work fellas.

I was also going to comment on Oakland County. To this day, it's a very well to do area, the opposite of what you suggest in this cast. I'm from Troy, which is not West Bloomfield or anything, but our mall has valet parking. Seriously, it's not a bad area. Actually midtown Detroit isn't too bad at the moment, but back then it wasn't pretty. On another topic, I lived downriver in the late 70s. I walked a couple miles to school a couple miles. I was in maybe 4th grade and a pair of 20 something guys tried to get me to their car one day after practice. I kinda thought they were just messing with me. But I've always remembered it.

Hey guys! I'm a new fan. A friend of mine suggested checking out your podcast and I'm so glad I did. Been binging your show for the past couple of weeks and have a theory about this one... Is it possible that perhaps Alan's "Frank" and Helen's "John" are the same guy? Since these are likely pseudonyms, what's stopping it from being one and the same? I find too many weird coincidences and compelling evidence on both, but nothing contradicts that they could be the same person. As Nic suggested, someone likely had remorse for laying out the bodies and Alan fits the bill. He could have been the "motherly" figure who watched the kid when Frank was gone. Also, just can't shake the chicken bone left on one of the victims along with the detailed map & the man who backed up Helen's story at the restaurant. Assuming this may be one person, let's take it a step further. As suggested on the show, this crime does ring true of some sort of child trafficking or related crimes. So, is it possible that one of the men associated with that world (Theodore, Chris, and/or Archibald) could be using one of the above alias and did the crime? I could see 2 or possibly even all 3 of these men taking part and one having remorse for their part (Alan), having a strange relationship with one of the others (Frank), and this psycho being proud of his "accomplishment" & bragging to Helen (John). Just my thoughts after listening. Thanks so much for the fine job you do on covering these cases. I'm hooked! Can't wait to hear more. P.S. Go Buckeyes! Go Browns!

Interesting show! Just a note: you compare the blue Gremlin car to the Wayne's World car, but the Wayne's World car is actually an AMC Pacer, which is quite different.

I know Gacy was cleared in this case... But Tim loved KFC and was found with fried chicken in his stomach, and Gacy requested KFC as part of his last meal. Coincidence? KFC isn't that good.

Man, this one was awful. I hope whoever did this suffered/suffers a long, excruciating death. I believe there was more than one pedophile involved. I think there was most likely a group of men/women abusing these kids, but there was one person in charge of "picking" the children and delivering them to these people, and it was the same person in charge of caring for them while they were captive, and in charge of disposing the bodies when they died. In my opinion, it was someone that was groomed and abused by the "ring leader". If you've covered the Johnny Gosch case, you must know by now that pedophile rings are waaay more common than we think. Gah, this makes me want to dedicate my life to fighting crime.

First - -I have been binging on all of your episodes and I LOVE you podcast. As this is a Michigan case it was especially interesting to me! I totally agree with the pedophile theory and Nic is exactly right about there most likely being a female involved, it makes the most sense OR as someone above stated, a certain non threatening type of individual in charge of procuring the kids :/ And I mainly wanted to correct to misconception about this being a poor area of Detroit. The crimes actually occurred in Oakland County (Detroit is located in Wayne County) which is one of the top 10 wealthiest counties in the country. But I see that others have beat me to it, I m glad I'm not the only one who was bristling at that assumption :) Thanks for getting me through my work week and the walks with my dog - LOVE YOU GUYS <3

Nic - the background on this case resembles Johnny Gosch and a few others in the sense that there is probably a larger network of criminals (sickest of the sick variety) involved. Have you seen the 2014 movie "The Captive" ? It's fictionalized story of networks like this, but it probably has some operational accuracy to it. Check it out. Great show guys.

Could this be the same guy who then moved on from MI when the publicity and/or authorities were actually closing in on him in the late 1970s and went out to IA for the 1980s (johnny gosh, marc allen, eugene martin) and covered his tracks better with the bodies bc he thought if he didn't it would be linked back to MI and to him personally? The car is blue and a Blue Ford Freemount could look similar to a Blue Gremlin, right?
