Loved this episode! For the question about OSB as a title, this stands for Order of Saint Benedict, which means the individual in question was part of a monastic community, possibly a Religious brother or a Monk. Thank you for the awesome shows!

So the because his throat was slit and an artery was cut, "The System" (The Church) sent out "somebody who knew what they were doing" to send a message about talking. Seems like The Captain was just taking a cheap shot at The Church. Simple question, why wouldn't "The System" just move him as far away as possible?

That's a good question Paul. I do want you to keep in mind we were discussing theories presented by persons close to the case and not theories of our own. We wanted to go through each of them and add our two cents. So no cheap shot intended and neither of us find the church killed father Kunz theory to be the most likely. Cheers, Nic

Just a thought after listening to the pc, The Priest was doing exorcisms is it possible that he had a bad result from on where the victim was lost and this was a disgruntled parent. He would have known the parents or family of the victim and he would want to console them if possible. Just a thought and wondering if anyone else thought it?

Great episode as always. Has TCG covered the case of Kendrick Johnson? It's the one case I can't stop thinking about and this is one of the only podcasts I trust when it comes to research.

Hi Francine - a weird thing with the while exorcism thing he was due to have a consultation with someone who might be in need of such a thing. According to investigators Kunz had not met the man or the mans family yet. This was a lead they chased down - didn't find a connection. As for previous people or families that sought his help,in this regard there is no mention of those leads being followed up on. You may have hit on something here. I feel the police could not establish a motive for the murder and this greatly hindered their chance at progress. Cheers, Nic

Hey Kelly, We have not covered Kendrick's case and frankly I don't know the more recent status of the case but I followed it for awhile as I believe the boy was murdered and I felt so incredibly bad for his parents. Not only did they lose their child but they didn't get a fair shake at a real investigation either. I'll put it on the list, well it already is on there but I'll put a big circle around it. Cheers, Nic

Satanic worship is often mentioned as a possible motivation for the crimes featured in this podcast, but I have never heard of it being an actual solution to the cases. Have there been crimes related to Satan worship?

Hi Georgia, We do happen to bring satanism as a possible motive but usually if not always only when it's a motive suggested by persons close to the case. This was the case in the Kunz murder and the Moster of Florence. We just happen to cover them both and back to back. It does happen - Richard Ramirez, the Chicago Ripper crew and then several cases where the perp is a teenager. Oh and the West Memphis 3 case depending on who you talk to. We obviously don't agree with that. It is very, very rare but it does happen. Cheers, Nic

My brother turned me on to the garage about a month ago and I have been binging ever since. Great job, great production, and great podcast. I recommend you check out the Gee family murders in Beadon, IL in 2009. Tragic event, but the Sheriff's department caught the perps and those monsters are now rotting in prison.

The good father was murdered in the rectory which is basically a house where the priests live. Not in the church. We had a nearly identical case about ten years ago at a suburban parish. A loser came to the rectory late in the evening asking for money and food. When he was turned away he stabbed the priest to death. Another thing. You opened the show by describing the victim as being in bed asleep when he heard noises. Yet later you said that he was dressed in a tee shirt and black pants when his body was found. This tells me that he had not yet gone to bed and probably let his killer into the rectory.

Hi Jack, Yes it's likely he had not gone to bed yet. But as far as where he was found he was actually found in a hallway near the door to his living quarters. It's been described that this would be in the school portion of the building and yes you are right not in the actual church. It could be that he didn't know his attacker. What went down that you referenced is a very likely scenario here as well. Cheers, Nic

Hey guys, I'm new to the podcast - I started with The Devil Did it. I was raised a catholic, but as things have come to light over the last several years my faith has truly been shaken. I am wondering if you have any thoughts on how this bears certain similarity to the case of Sister Cathy, document through the Netflix series "The Keepers" as I noted another comment mentioning the documentary. Based on the little bit of research and things I have learned, I would not be surprised in the least to find that this murder was a cover up for a leak of potentially damaging information regarding the Archdiocese. I believe this has happened numerous times, throughout many of the states. It could have gone a little further in that the Archdiocese and potentially great lengths to ensure this was covered up. I find it no coincidence that Father Fiore passed away under possible suspicious circumstances a year later. I'd love to hear more and can't wait to dive into more of your podcasts!

Welcome Lauren, The similarities that jump off if the page for me is so many possible suspects. Anyone who hasn't seen the Keepers yet should definitely watch it. It was very entertaining. Regarding the two cases there certainly a possibility both were killed to be silenced but there's also the possibility some random crazy person killed them. When I'm stumped I tried to go back to what the investigation showed and in both cases it's very obvious the police believe both sister Cathy & father Kunz were killed by someone they knew. I still think both could be solved. Cheers, Nic

I have recently found your Podcasts and love listening to them during my runs. I have recommended your Podcasts to almost everyone I talk to. When I first started listening to this particular one, it immediately reminded me of the killing of Father Rossiter in Onalaska, WI in February of 1985. I lived in the neighboring town to Onalaska and remember how this impacted the community. Father Rossiter and two others were killed by Brian Stanley as he was upset that Father Rossiter had allowed girls to read scripture. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia and his mother helped change law in WI. I remember his mother coming and speaking to one of my classes when I was a senior in high school. He was released in 2008. Have you guys heard of this case? In WI, we seem to be famous for beer, cheese, and murder!!!

Just curious if anyone has wondered about him being a sexual abuser. Call it stereotype if you choose but I"m an adult survivor of childhood sexual abuse and I have a 6th sense about abusers. This man, just looking at his pics, gives me that feeling I get before I have to run. Not good, in my opinion. Maybe someone lost it and struck back as an adult.

Of course Sarah, that is always a question mark regarding Catholic Priests. I didn't get that same vibe but I don't think I have sixth sense for that sort of thing. It is said that Father Kunz was quite the opposite of your suspicions. He was labeled a whistle blower in the Catholic community. Cheers, Nic
