My wife and I were listening to yall last night on our drive from Dallas to Waco. Episode was Palmer Lake area in Co. . Guy was found murdered while out on a Mountain Bike ride.
A thought occurred to me that I will share with you:
You said the body was covered in leaves and branches. The number one suspect last name Nations; was known to carry a hatchet with him and reportedly threatening people with it. My questions is: How were the branches covering the body detached from the trees near by? Were they ripped off the trees or chopped/hatchet-ed? Can forensics (like ballistics on a bullet ) tie Nations hatchet to the chop marks on the branches and trees?

Great episode! I can find very little about this case online. One image of Danny and one image of his Grave. Can you provide some links? Thanks!

Hi Dean - regarding finding the Tim's body and the scene - little is known most of the accounts we found were from some of the volunteer searchers and what they had to say about the scene. I think Law Enforcement may have that stuff and could be following some of the directions you mentioned.
Cheers Nic

Great episode and a return to basics, you guys really have been off the boil for a few months but this was refreshing, any episode where the idiotic views of captain are small and in short supply is a great episode

Loved this episode! I am a long time listener and this was the first time I was inspired to drop you a note. Mr. Rinek’s perspective and work on the case was very informative and unique. I work with veterans and first responders with PTSD and I found his personal story compelling and heart wrenching. Mr. Rinek – thank you for your service and your willingness to talk openly and honestly about suicide and trauma. I am confident your story will help others who are trying to cope with and overcome their own trauma. Boys – thanks for bring us this story ……… I will be dropping some coin in the beer cooler in support of future episodes. Cheers from Canada

Yes again - I recommend everyone pick up the book or get the audio version - "In the Name of the Children" by Jeff Rinek - it was one of my very favorite true crime books of 2018.

Did the retired agent ever mention if “Jonathan’s” mother was ever charged for child molestation or incest or anything after the fact. Given what her son had reported. Sounds to me like she was the real sicko here and the one actually responsible for Danny’s murder and hiding of his body. Just scary to think a woman capable of all those things is walking around free.

This is something they wanted to pursue - However I don't remember if they were successful in doing so. It's being a while so I'm a bit blurry on the details but I seem to remember some complications regarding any type of conviction.
Please pick up the book if you have the chance - its a fascinating read.

My good friend was the one who found Danny's skull in the woods while on a hike to go fishing (if I remember right) and came upon the skeletal remains near a boulder, or on a boulder...its been years since my friend and I have spoken but I'd love to ask him more about how he found Danny's remains. I'll post if I can get some more details.
I'm from the area where Danny went missing, and I still recall the impact this had on our tiny community.

This story just breaks my heart. As a mother and listening to the detective describing Danny’s mom made me angry and cried through the episode I just wanted to rescue him give him love and hug little Danny. May Danny Rest In Peace and now he is more loved in Heaven and happier!
