Date is a little off but Thomas Hesse is right size and similar head shape for man with no hands. He is from Canada. If Thomas was not reported missing right away... that could explain the date. Just throwing it out there.

I rolled my eyes at the cornbread mafia idea, but honestly D county and G county are about the same distance from where the cornbread guys were, so…but, this really wasn’t their style. I’m from close to there, lots of stories! And if the D county doe was from Whitesville, he’d have been identified very quickly, it’s a very small town. My husband is from there, he’s never heard of this case. Neither have I. Thanks for covering it and bringing attention to it!

One thing I was thinking was that the sex could have been consensual without having been a relationship. By that I mean that he could have been a sex worker. Just a thought that occurred to me as I listened. Thanks for another great case!

3 to the head, 3 to the body = 3 people each responsible for 2 shots each... so no one can dob the others in? I hope this wasn't an anti-gay hate crime 🤞 too horrible. I don't think it would fit with the brutality and hand/feet removal anyhow. The body dumping reminded me of the undercover cop who infiltrated a bikie gang and had to participate in a trip for this purpose. https://pca.st/episode/328d7929-92d9-4506-b2c4-de99c96fd662

Is there information as to where on the victim the seminal fluid was found? A sexual assault or sexual encounter leading to murder is definitely a possibility. But I was also wondering if it could've been a BTK-like situation where the act of the murder itself sexual aroused the killer and he masturbated on or around the corpse after the killing. Which could also give credence to the serial killer theory, as that definitely qualifies as serial killer type behavior. I think this is less likely than the sexual assault or encounter theory, but wanted to throw out that possibility.

Grant County (Williamstown) and Daviess County (Owensboro) are separated by 200+ miles and 3 hours. That’s a similar distance between Cincinnati and Cleveland, fellas. Connecting these two cases is ridiculous, in my mind. That being said, it is possible both victims could have been moved from a different state, as Owensboro is directly across the Ohio river from Indiana and Williamstown is about 30 minutes from Ohio. In 1989, tobacco farming was huge in Kentucky and many migrant workers came to work in tobacco. It’s certainly possible that the Grant County John Doe was a migrant worker who was murdered and was relatively unknown to law enforcement. Also, the good ol boy system was strongly intact at that point, so a coverup could have easily happened. As for the Owensboro case, considering the semen on the victim, a hate crime or a serial killer seem far more likely than anything else. It I were a betting man, like the colonel, I would put my money on these cases *not* being connected.

@ Aaron, I agree - the distance makes it seem like not likely. It's not out of the realm of possibility. The short amount of time between the two makes it a little more difficult to get passed it. One thought too would be it appears to me that whoever disposed of Grant County doe was not so concerned about him being found. Where the Daviess case feels different. Like they were trying to conceal the body even more. Nic

I'm assuming they have DNA for both victims? Can we not run their DNA through these DNA sights to see if we can find relatives? I think getting them identified will be key to solving their murders.

I wondered if the feet being removed was to stop him getting away. Or some weird trophy for the killer - Dahmer style.

The Captain made an interesting, off-hand comment in the Grant Co. case about drug gangs travelling along the river that has stuck with me. In the summer of 1989, the same year as the Grant Co. case, a woman was sexually assaulted, cut entirely in half, and dumped in the Ohio River at Manchester, OH, a small town on Route 52 roughly half-way between Portsmouth, OH and Newport, KY. The murder was never solved largely because it doesn't seem to have ever been investigated. However, it is generally attributed to a motorcycle gang that was based loosely out of Newport and was running drugs up and down the Ohio River. The victim has still never been identified, although the body mutilation had nothing to do with identification. It seemed to be more of a message. Daviess Co., Grant Co., and Manchester (Adams Co.) all border the Ohio River, all have roads that run along the river with heavy bike traffic, and all three have mutilated murder victims killed in '89 and '90 but still never identified. Connected?
