I’m getting a bad vibe about the firefighter. He’s a total creep, he may have been waiting by while the boyfriend walked her home, once the boyfriend was out of sight he drove up to her and she got in the car with him. He might have tried to sleep with her and she said no and things got out of hand.... he knew that if he was charged with raping a 17 year old child his entire career and life would be over. I could be way off, but it’s just the feeling I’m getting.

This is a case I've never heard of and after listening to the episode I have a lot of questions. Was the boyfriend's house ever searched? How is the mom so sure that Deanna was breaking up with the boyfriend? How did Deanna sound on the phone that night? Wasn't there a chance they would have Tommy's DNA at the house, especially if he spent anytime there? Was Tommy alone that night or were his parents there, too? Why didn't anyone hear anything? I'm leaning toward Tommy and his friend having done something to Deanna. Maybe the two boys wanted to experiment and when Deanna said no, things got out of control and one of them sexually assaulted her and then killed her while the other watched. It would be interesting to know if she was killed where she was found. I can't imagine it would be easy to kill her at Tommy's house and then get her a quarter of a mile away. What if Tommy and/or the friend tried something and Deanna ran. One, or both of the boys could have chased after her, not wanting her to tell on them, and they assaulted and killed her where she was found. In my opinion, the cops know who did it and just need more evidence. I hope they get it soon so that poor family can have some peace for once.

I have a daughter about this age. Very, very sad case. The wheels of justice do indeed turn very slowly sometimes. Also Captain needs to get some 'tussin. Great job again guys. Well done.

Love the show....been listening since for years. But it's to the point I want a patreon tier that gives me a cut without the useless stuff the Captain says....so prob 80% less Captain. The "motive on a woman's back" made zero sense. Constantly throwing in his opinions which we know by now. Oh Nic brought up a grown man talking to a teen girl? Yeah....we all know the Captain is about to call him a creep and a piece of sh*t. Also, the absence of evidence isn't really evidence. If they find the boyfriend's touch DNA and nobody else's, that doesn't prove it was him. Maybe the perpetrator wore gloves. Having to hear how the ordering of food with a friend late at night on a school night in the 90s is suspicious was a waste of my time. If the friend was in high school and not allowed company that late at night on a school night, I'm sure the cops would've also talked to the parents.

Nic, it's so eerie how on the assignment Deanna had on March 29th on the list of 5 important things, number 5 was, "5. To live a long time. Health" and on the second question, if you had to choose from the above which was most important, "2. To live long and healthy." This is almost like an Omen, or some feeling coming over her. I tried to research my hardest- to see if I could come up with how Tommy LeBlanc was related to that then Mayor, Mike Capuano and Barbara Teebagy his wife, to no avail! As well, I tried to deduce the data in the redacted files and see if I could get certain names words to match any of the redactions and well thats another "Cipher" in itself. I've read more on Mass than I ever wanted to, even going through the old Somerville Firefighter photos to see if I could find a Teebagy or Capuano, which I could not. But what I did find out and another thing that fits in, is that Capuano implemented this fibre optics cable program in Somerville in the 90's, I read this in some mayor information and what does fit in those redacted files is, "Somerville Cable Access Television developer" and Deanna worked there! Now I also figured out that this developer from the redacted files is related to Capuano or his "Aunt"? I am stuck and stumped- Aunt is the only four letter word related to a family member I can think of. The question I have is, the artist sketch from the witness/redacted witness description looks just like Tommy but older- which I find very odd and can't understand how this could happen. I guess we need to figure out these words from the redacted files that fit into the x's spaces. Maybe when I have time I'll give it another shot. My gut says it was the Fireman but the evidence tells me it was Tommy. I think something happened, and the two boys, Tommy and his friend, carried her body as close to Deannas home, & as far as possible without getting caught. They the two boys or whom-ever thought she would be safe behind the senior care home, then went back to the friends house and sure ordered the Pizza because Tommy couldn't go home, they both had to chill out. And yes, even if Tommy and she had sex, it would be a hard thing to prove that it was forced, but w/ this said, something could have happened during sex. The only reason I think it's the Firefighter is do to the redacted data and where Firefighter and Somerville fit into those x's too. If it was Tommy, shame on you, you must spend your life looking over your shoulder man. I could be totally wrong on everything- if I figure out all the x's in the redaction you'll be the first to know. P.S. there is a LeBlanc School in Lowell, Mass- it could be something or just a common back east name. "You lied, Promises Of what I seemed to be, Only watched the time Go by, All of these things- I said to you." STP

I lean towards Tommy as that’s what the family thinks and they have so much more information than any of us. Also, the walking her only halfway home is a huge red flag IMO. I think possibly that friend, Jason, knows something or maybe even helped. I doubt they were really watching TV that night. I think when Deanna called home she and Tommy were probably in the middle of a major argument and she knew it wouldn’t be resolved in time for her curfew. The sexually assault doesn’t add up in my head. I can imagine a boyfriend of two years, a possessive one at that, losing his sh!t in a jealous rage and killing his girlfriend. I just can’t imagine that he would sexually assault her too. Unless he did it purely to make it look like a stranger attack on the way home. Someone has gotten away with murder for far too long. I hope they solve this case. Thanks for another great episode. Hope you’re ok Nic

Hi, so sorry place this here, but I have a recommendation, it is the case of Corinna Mullen, it's very interesting and it has a lot of surprise revelations to it that goes beyond the victim itself. I would love for you guys to cover it. Again, my apologies for posting this here, just did not know where to post case suggestions. Keep up the good work and hopefully the Captain likes my jib for this choice!

Hello! Love your podcast, I look forward to my commute back and forth to work now. I don't know if I'm suppose to post this here, but we have an unsolved case around our local area from 1988. Her body has never been found. There are people still investigating it to this day. Her name was Lisa Maas and the last time she was seen was a party in Woodford Ontario. It would be a good one to cast out there. Hope you guys have a great day! Keep up the awesome work! (Who ever is responsible for this is a piece of shit...)

Could have made a very strong circumstantial case 25 years ago that probably would have gotten a conviction. But you had a district attorney's office that was too afraid to take a big political loss, so the buck keeps getting passed. No charges are coming. Pretty sure the boyfriend did it, the timing just does not lend itself to anyone else.

If hanging out with a friend late at night when you’re nineteen is suspicious behavior, you’d have to investigate just about every nineteen year-old. C’mon guys, you know better than to make assumptions on normal behaviors. No one should be leaning towards anyone in this case, there was ZERO evidence in this episode.

I like the podcast and the stories very well explained but the only negative thing is the one speaker sounds like a tool The picture I get when I hear his voice is an older man who lives in his mothers basement he sounds like an idiot when he’s giving his opinion he just doesn’t seem to have that much intelligence and I’m all for for having a regular Joe speak but not someone with a learning disability and I’m not being discriminative show would be great if he was off it I’m sorry I can’t stand him

First of all, if I ever go missing, I hope Christie Groves does the investigation to find out what happened. Were there any parents home at Tommy's house and were they interviewed by police? I have a feeling this could be a neighborhood creep that was looking out his window when she was walking alone. Quite possibly the bf but for some reason it doesn't quite fit for me. Also, I've never heard of this case and I live in the general area. Did not get much publicity in the media like the Janet Downing case, which is a shame.

Excellent review of a very sad story. How many old creeps are out there-whether or not the fireman did it? And...."because he had 2 shoes"-why do I think this is so funny?

Hey Tony- Your comment is douchey. You seem like a real gem. Also, maybe don’t write a big ass run on sentence while trying to complain about someone else’s intelligence. You look like a dumb ass, and a mean dumb ass at that.
